Are You Feeling Crushed By Adversity?
No matter how heavy your heart and alone you feel in your present circumstances, you are not alone. God is with you, always. (Deuteronomy 31:8). I know this may not seem overly comforting in the moment, but the more you embrace this concept, the easier things will become. Christ died so you could experience life in abundance (John 10:10). Before you can live abundantly, you need to internalize the fact that you are not alone. If you can’t allow yourself to let God’s Love, Mercy, and Grace to wash over you, at least embrace the fact that every person alive has faced difficulty and adversity. What sets those you admire apart from the rest of the world is how they've dealt with their adversities.
Stop Wallowing In Self-Pity
Did that statement strike your heart? GOOD! Now I have your attention; so let me say it again. Stop wallowing in self-pity. The only thing you’re accomplishing is continuing the negative cycle and making yourself feel worse about the situation.
How can you be so harsh? you might be thinking. I can be bold and blunt because I used to wallow in self-pity, and the only thing it accomplished for me was more difficulty, more adversity. Focusing on my problems NEVER brought me any closer to a solution. If anything, wallowing in self-pity kept me confused and unstable. (If you haven’t read The Letter yet, you probably should. It will help you understand exactly how much I understand adversity.) Fortunately, I found a better way, The Christian Way (Acts 2:38).
