Homesick

"I never realized how much I like being home until I've been some place really different for awhile." -Juno

God, I'd give anything to come back home.

Bleeding, seething, reeling from the blows. No bandages will help, no stitches will hold. Scars deep and forever. The repayment for all my hands have wrought.

Looking around, seeing nothing but debris, I long for my next life. To be only where you are. Lost in your embrace, safe from the storms. I long for somewhere where wounds heal; somewhere this makes sense; somewhere bigger; somewhere home.

Both my hands are empty. I have nothing left to show; placed all my hopes in sinking ships. The thieves have had their way with me. Now I'm bankrupt and the collectors are all coming to call. My stocks have crashed. All my ground is sinking sand.

I ran so fast, I fell so far.

God, will you let me come back home? Will you take even this upon that cross again?

Will you take back this prodigal child? You were so good to me; you gave me everything; you gave me you. But I wanted more--you didn't seem to shine so bright anymore with my eyes fixed on fool's gold. So I demanded and you granted. I fled, scattering your inheritance along the way; all your precious jewels into the hands of my debtors. I had your heart, I knew I did. But I took it, traded it for a meal with swine; my princess crown for heartache. You gave, you blessed. I gambled, I cheated. Now that I'm all spent, Abba will you still run after me?

Will you take back this bride? With her hands full of filth; her once "oh-so-beautiful" wedding gown tattered and torn; her veil reeking from the stench of the other lovers; their lustful poison still fresh on her cracking lips. With my eyes full of tears, I cannot bring myself to tell you what I've done. But you know. You watched, you cried. You watched as I walked into the beast's den; cried as I defiled what was only ever yours. Your face still haunts me. You screamed, you bled, you tried to stop me. But I told you to be quiet, I lied, I cheated, I ran. I'd do anything to take it back.

O God, my God, be merciful to me.
