Heresy (Romans 1:18)
Romans 1:18
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness.
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness.
>The scripture says that God's wrath is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness.
>It is the righteousness of Christ that saves a sinner (not your own self-righteousness).
- the Bible says all our righteousness is as filthy rags in the sight of God (Isaiah 64: 6)
>It is God's nature to punish sin. In order to express His nature (which is holiness, righteousness, and truth), He must punish sin.
>In order to understand salvation and the wrath of God, you have to understand the depth of sin.
- wrath of God = His feeling toward sin (holy anger)
>God is merciful not because He's lenient, but because of the work of Christ.
>The Gospel (the work of Christ) has NOT changed God's attitude towards sin.
- It has made it possible for sinners to be saved.
>The Bible says owe no man anything - don't be tied or attached to anyone
- especially as ministers of God, because it'll hinder you from rebuking them when they need it
- everyone you know in this life will not spend eternity with you in the next life, so just like you wear material things loosely down here, wear people loosely as well (even if they're your family or friends)
>His judgment is revealed against all ungodliness and unrighteousness
- ungodliness = that which is against God (sin against God such as idolatry)
- unrighteousness = that which is against man (sin against man such as adultery, stealing, etc.) (it is denying the rules of God)
Acts 17:30-31
>during the times when we were ignorant of God's truth, He winked at it (or overlooked it), but now that He has revealed His truth to us, He's charged us to repent.
>In Romans 1:18, God talks about the saints who hold the truth in unrighteousness
>There's heresy going on in the land (cultic teachings)
>Watch the power and deception of heresy in these last days (watch how many will turn from sound doctrine)
>Heresy is a spirit
>1 Corinthians 11:19 explains why God allows heresy:
1 Corinthians 11:19
For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you.
But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
>the scriptures tell us that these false teachers will be AMONG us
>these false teachers work secretly undercover in a spirit of hypocrisy
>they have SOME truth doctrines (they believe SOME things that are true), which is what makes them even more dangerous
And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of
>these false teachers will speak evil of the truth
>false followers will go after false teachers. the genuine sheep will not follow false teachers
Titus 3:9-11
9 But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain. 10 A man that is an heretic after the first and second admonition reject; 11 Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself.
>The only way to avoid deception is to know the truth (which is God's Word) for yourself
>Don't believe everything the televangelists tell you
>Pray for your spiritual leaders, that God would keep them in tune with His Spirit as they keep watch over your souls. If you don't have a spiritual covering, start asking and believing God for one. He's promised you an undershepherd
Saints, buy the truth and sell it not

And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained, whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.
>during the times when we were ignorant of God's truth, He winked at it (or overlooked it), but now that He has revealed His truth to us, He's charged us to repent.
- Why? Because He has appointed a day when He will judge us according to HIS righteousness, not according to our righteousness.
- all our righteousness is as filthy rags in the eyesight of God. therefore, we cannot stand before God in our own righteousness (i cannot stress this enough). we can ONLY stand before Him washed in the Blood of the Lamb
>In Romans 1:18, God talks about the saints who hold the truth in unrighteousness
>There's heresy going on in the land (cultic teachings)
- heresies = doctrines & principles at VARIANCE to true doctrines and principles (they oppose that which has been established in heaven)
- you'll hear lots of heresy in these last days (via the New Age Movement)
- don't debate with heretics
>Watch the power and deception of heresy in these last days (watch how many will turn from sound doctrine)
>Heresy is a spirit
>1 Corinthians 11:19 explains why God allows heresy:
1 Corinthians 11:19
For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you.
- He allows it so that the true believers will be revealed
- most churches are filled with unbelievers. that's why it says that they're AMONG you. therefore, God gives them over to heresy. that's why you see so many cults forming (freemasonry, jehovah witnesses, etc.). God allows a spirit of heresy to enter in, so that the true believers can be separated from the unbelievers
- the Lord is skimming them off so you'll see who's genuine
But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
>the scriptures tell us that these false teachers will be AMONG us
- sometimes the enemy comes in and encamps
>these false teachers work secretly undercover in a spirit of hypocrisy
>they have SOME truth doctrines (they believe SOME things that are true), which is what makes them even more dangerous
- an example of this is when you hear people tell you "Oh we believe that Jesus was a prophet too," yet they deny Him as being the Son of God
And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of
>these false teachers will speak evil of the truth
>false followers will go after false teachers. the genuine sheep will not follow false teachers
- My sheep hear My voice (John 10:27)
Titus 3:9-11
9 But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain. 10 A man that is an heretic after the first and second admonition reject; 11 Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself.
- genealogy = questions like: Where did man come from? What's our ancestry? etc.
- you don't need to prove your knowledge of the Scriptures, just live them
- we're supposed to defend the faith, but not through debates and arguments
- after 2nd admonition, reject them
- heretic = one who maintains heresy
>The only way to avoid deception is to know the truth (which is God's Word) for yourself
>Don't believe everything the televangelists tell you
- 1 John 4: 1 - Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
>Pray for your spiritual leaders, that God would keep them in tune with His Spirit as they keep watch over your souls. If you don't have a spiritual covering, start asking and believing God for one. He's promised you an undershepherd
