I always intend to keep up on the blogging, but it just does not seem to happen.
Work has been keeping me very busy. That is good for the paycheck but it takes a lot away from any "life" I have outside of work. I'm not complaining though.
A few weeks ago my car broke down. Fortunately I was still in my apartments parking lot when it died. A lady in my congregation whom I'd sent a get-well card to sent me an email at how blessed she was by my card. She told me about her and another congregation friend who got together every week for coffee and invited me to join them sometime. I emailed her back thanking her and then explained that I would love to join them for coffee, just due to my job I never knew when I was going to be called. Also, that I thought the battery was dead in my car and I was trying to find someone who could give a jump start.
Well, a couple of days later, I received a call from her husband, an auto mechanic. He asked if they could come over and jump start the car for me. "Sure" I said. So they came but the jump would not work. He checked it out some more and said that he felt it was the fuel pump. He asked if he could get the car to his shop would I mind if he checked it out further. Again, "sure".
Well about a week later he called me and said the car was ready for me. He said he would come and get me. I had no idea what the cost would be. He brought the car to me then I drove him back to his shop. He had replaced the fuel pump and something else involved with the fuel pump plus he had also reattached the mirror which had broken and I had kept taped. He handed me the bill of $455 and written on it was Happy Hanukkah be blessed...paid in full. He had written it off. What a blessing. All because I sent a get-well card.
On Christmas day I was called by my boss asking if I would fill in on the shuttle. "Sure" I said. I was looking forward to the 8 hours of time and a half pay. Well, I had just started the shift. I had two guys on board and went to the hotel they stay at to see if anyone there was going to Parsons.
We had just had a blizzard the night before so there was snow and ice everywhere. It was 3 in the afternoon and the hotel should have had their driveways cleared but they did not. So, the first thing that went wrong was that the van got stuck in the snow in the driveway (the vans get stuck easy). I managed to get out and went the other direction and around the hotel and there I encountered another pile of snow. I had nowhere to go but through it. Well, part way through the back of the van began to slide and I looked over and saw a parked car that the van was about to slide into. I stepped on the brake. The two guys got out and then another crew member came out of the hotel and they all helped push the van out of the snow.
So I pull ahead and park just to the side of the building (if I went to the front I would be committed to going out the same driveway I came into) and carefully walked across the parking lot (the walkway was uncleared and piled with snow). I got to the door, opened it and peeked in, asking if anyone was going to Parsons. No one was, so I shut the door, turned around to walk back to the van and that's the last I remember....
The next thing I know, I'm opening my eyes and I'm lying on the ground and there are several people standing over me. They told me I had fallen but I could not comprehend how that had happened. They got me up off the ground and walked me into the hotel. It all looked so familiar but I had no idea where I was. They sat me on the couch and told me an ambulance was on the way. As I sat there I continued to look around. I then remembered that I was a driver but I still did not now what I was doing, where I was going, or anything. Then the EMT's came and they put me on a stretcher and took me out to the ambulance. On the way out I turned my head slightly and saw the van where I had left it. I remember thinking, "why is the van parked over there?" Then suddenly it all came back. I could hear my boss's voice and thought "wow, how long was I out that he got here?"
I spent about 3 hours in the emergency room, strapped to a board. Yuk! They did a cat scan and felt that other than hypertension I was ok. I had a follow up a few days later and they said everything seemed fine. I have a headache that comes and goes, along with a large bump on my head that hurts to the touch. The body aches are easing up a little more each day. Workers Comp will take care of everything. That's good.
2009 has been a fairly decent year. God has kept me and provided my every need and even some wants. I know that he will continue to do so.
Be blessed and Happy 2010
