Good Friday
1 Peter 2:24-25
He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls. (ESV)
Today we solemnly observe what our Lord Jesus did for us... how he lived a perfect life and was sinless, how he willingly went to the cross to take on our penalty for sins, so that we could receive his imputed righteousness. This allows believers to stand before God without condemnation. We have become justified by Jesus' selfless sacrifice. All we have to do is believe on Jesus, acknowledging in the depths of our soul who he is (the Messiah, the Son of God) and what he has done for us.
The Reformation Study Bible notes:
"2:24 bore our sins. See Is. 53:12. Christ is more than an example; He is the sin-bearer. As the perfect sacrifice (1:19; 2:24), Christ suffered the curse of sin, accepting the punishment our sins deserved and providing forgiveness and freedom."
2 Corinthians 5:21
For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. (ESV)
Thank you Lord for dying so that we might be cleansed and rising again from the dead, so that we might live. Amen.
