I'm sure there are so many different viewpoints concerning what I'm about to say but this is my blog so I guess I get to post what I think! But it's more of question really. Is God such a nitpicker about sin that it leads Christian brothers and sisters to fight with and judge one another?
I mean, seriously, as a mod I get to see some of the worst fighting and bickering that goes on here at CF and it's quite...stupid! I'm not going to give any examples of what I see from this site, but just life in general, it's everywhere!
We all have this little problem called sin, right? We all have our flaws, mistakes, differences, upbringings, philosophies, creeds, deeds and whatnot. But there's a lot of people who think that they represent Christ the best. Their denomination is best or their thinking is best. But what's worst is that they believe that their sins are tiny insignificant little blips on the radar to the point of justifying what they do. "I made a mistake! I'm not perfect! Please forgive me!" That's not the problem. Of course that person made a mistake. But what I take issue with is that the same person who cried out for mercy for him or herself turns around and judges another for their sins!
I know someone who sat down with me once and talked about the sin of homosexuality. He said that it's an abomination unto God and he doesn't think that a gay person could get into heaven. I told him that I believe a gay person has just as much a chance as he does or I do getting into heaven. He debated with me back and forth over it, but I finally said to him, "Listen. I'm not judging you and I think you're a great guy. But right now, you're living with and having sex with a woman you're not married to and you don't think there's anything wrong with it. Are you any better than a gay person?" He stopped talking about it ever since that.
You may have your little list of bad sins and think that you can't do this or can't do that, but you can't have you're own hidden list of sins you commit and think they're okay. It's just not right. ALL sin is condemable to an eternity of hell. And God sent His only Son to the cross to die for ALL of our sins. He died for the gay man's sins and He died for my friend's sins and He died for my sins and for your sins. You are not a better person than I am because you don't share my sins. Your sins are just as bad as my sins. God is no respecter of persons. I refuse to believe He nitpicks about sin the same way we do! Maybe Old Testament He did. But not now...not in the period of grace.
I believe that salvation is an act of faith unto God and it's something you cannot earn with good works...on the flip side you cannot lose it by lack of good works. It is a GIFT given to us by God.
