I asked why did Salvation call?
Whilst still in filth and shame
Whist full of pride whilst walking tall
Despising Jesus’ name
For no great deed I could have done
Nor any righteous song
By grace alone God sent His Son
To whom I’d now belong
God saw this child in deep despair
Who served at Satan’s throne
Christ Jesus took my every care
And brought such bliss unknown
The tears soon dried that flowed in streams
Sweet joy caressed my face
As peace beyond my wildest dreams
Came sadness to replace
On humble knees with contrite heart
With all now found within
I thanked my God for life’s new start
And cleansing me of sin
A smile took shape where once a frown
As gloom made way to Light
As selfish walls were broken down
And lustful deeds took flight
Revived, my soul began to sing
I danced Salvation’s tune
I felt my heart would soon take wing
Above my world of ruin
Above the ashes left behind
Above the rags I’d worn
I lift my eyes that once were blind
To God and life’s new dawn
Whilst still in filth and shame
Whist full of pride whilst walking tall
Despising Jesus’ name
For no great deed I could have done
Nor any righteous song
By grace alone God sent His Son
To whom I’d now belong
God saw this child in deep despair
Who served at Satan’s throne
