The Lord's prayer was assembled by Jesus from bits and pieces from the OT. God's will from the start was that we put His will ahead of ours and scripture says Eve was the first to break that commandment. Man ever since (with examples throughout the Bible) has made putting our will first as our default setting and as a result we have become self absorbed in nature. It is why we were removed from God's territory and sent into the territory of the rebellious elohim.
Repentance simply means changing, actually reversing our nature from one of self interest to interest of others. If indeed there comes a time that God returns to rule in this world before the new Kingdom comes into being, you can bet no man will be left running the show here, be they businessmen, religious authourity, financier or politician... and that is a good thing. But they won't go without a fight.
In the meantime, lead us not into the temptation of self interest and deliver us from the evil of our default nature.
