It is true that “we love him [God] because he first loved us” (1 John 4:19). Consequently, the children of God have the privilege of praying intimately to Him. That is, we can actually talk to Him. Regarding His initiative to communicate with us and His longing for us to know Him, The Bible says:
“My son, be attentive to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. 21 Let them not depart from your eyes (Proverbs 4:20-21)
So we see that God wants us to have a relationship with Him that is palpable, real and that touches us even to the senses.
We should take note that something miraculous springs from this, namely that we become aware that God is willing for us to approach Him in a similar way—ears, eyes and all. This lines up with Deuteronomy 6:5 and Matthew 22:37, which in the New Testament echoing is stated as...
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.”
It is a holy boldness when we hold fast to this and prayer accordingly, appealing to the Divine’s senses and sensibility:
“please let Your ear be attentive and Your eyes open, that You may hear the prayer of Your servant which I pray before You now, day and night.” (Nehemiah 1:6)
What a blessed experience it is to be able to express ourselves honestly with God in the midst of our prayers, petitions, praises, and worship! We can do so with complete freedom, because our Heavenly Father has revealed, openly, the character of His Being as well as His truth at the same time. He, the Lord Almighty, cannot help but be--to His glory and the benefit of His people..
“I AM WHO I AM” (Exodus 3:14)
In the totality of all this, there is blessed and full communion between God and redeemed humanity.
