Frowners Never Win

Friday, April 3, 2009, 7:57 a.m. – We received a phone call this morning early from our youngest son (military). He and his wife just had their second child, our seventh grandchild and our second grandson. The newest addition to the Love Family was born at 4:43 this morning (4/3). He weighed in at 7lb 11oz and was 19 inches long. My DIL’s sister took a picture of him on her cell phone and sent it to me. He looks a lot like his older sister, but he definitely looks like a boy!

This morning, as I was opening the blinds to the windows in our house and it looked like we were going to have sunshine today, this song came into my mind:

I never knew any of these words except for the chorus before – interesting words!

Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening. I read Philippians 4:2-9:

Exhortations
2I plead with Euodia and I plead with Syntyche to agree with each other in the Lord. 3Yes, and I ask you, loyal yokefellow, help these women who have contended at my side in the cause of the gospel, along with Clement and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life.

4Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

8Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. 9Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

This is what I needed to hear this morning. My husband and I got into an argument last night. We had a difference of opinion over something; a dissimilar memory about past situations that were possibly related to a present situation, so basically it was not a pleasant conversation. We ended it with apologies, forgiveness, etc. yet when I woke up, it came back to my mind. So, this song and this passage of scripture were both perfect in getting my mind refocused to where it needed to be.

I needed to be reminded to “rejoice always”, to “let my gentleness be evident to all”, to “not be anxious about anything”, but to pray, and then to think about good things and things that are “excellent and praiseworthy” instead of allowing Satan to get me to dwell on the negative, ‘cause “smilers never lose and frowners never win.”
