Hebrews 3
16For who were the ones who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt? 17And with whom was God angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? 18And to whom did He swear that they would never enter His rest? Was it not to those who disobeyed? 19So we see that it was because of their unbelief that they were unable to enter.
We see here that unbelief and sin go hand in hand. They walk together like peas in a pod. This is the pivotal moment for all who profess faith in Christ. Do we believe that Jesus' death on the cross was really enough to set us free from the power that sin has over us? (Romans 7-8, Col 2:15) Or do we just accept that we are nothing but sinners and in false humility say "Thank God for grace." Romans 6:1-2 Should we continue in sin so grace may abound? Absolutely not! How can we who (should have) died to sin, live in it any longer? How?
It is not unbiblical to teach people to stop sinning! Jesus blood on the cross is enough! It is! We all must believe that! That is why in 1 Corinthians 10:13 Paul writes that there is NO TEMPTATION that has overtaken you that isn't uncommon to man, but God. Is. Faithful. and will provide each of us a way of escape so we can bear it.
So trust Him to do that! Because the alternative is unbelief and without faith, it is IMPOSSIBLE to please God! (Hebrews 11:6) And those who lived in unbelief were forbidden to enter the promised land, even though they had been saved and members of God's covenant.
