For the Sake of the Elect

I had checked my email and scanned Amazon probably 10 times already. The clothes were washed and I was already dressed so I dashed out the apartment in hopes of seeing the mailman. I had ordered some earrings from off the internet about a week ago and knew that they should be arriving soon. I stood out where a few neighbors of mine sell hotdogs, chips, and sodas but didn't stay for too long because those neighbors are nosy and always in my business so I left to go stand on the other side where a guy sells candy and sodas to look for the mailman.

This guy is a familiar guy to me. I used to buy candy from him on a daily basis. So to be polite I bought some from him and asked ,"Have you seen the mailman?" He responded "No, he probably won't be here till 4:00." At this point it was 11:50-ish going on 12:00 pm. Another man turned to me and asked "What time does he normally come?"

"Around 11/12:00"

After that he then continued on with his conversation. While I was munching down on candy I heard a lady say "I've been a lesbian since I was 18, but have been celibate for a year after I gave my life to Christ"

I immediately thought 'This lady is a Christian' and turned to see who delivered the message.

I was expecting an applaud or a hallelujah from the surrounding crowd but that wasn't the case. Instead their reactions were "Mmmmmm" as if she was in the wrong or as if she was weird or something. By this time, I was looking around for the mailman but still eavesdropping on the conversation.

The woman: "I've repented of being a lesbian after my new life in Christ and have had no relations in a year"

'Amen'

The crowd continued to look down on her. It was hard to make out what everyone was saying because they all inaudibly mumbled to themselves. I tuned out. Don't know what I was thinking at this point. Maybe I was too focused on opening a Now and Later from it's wrapper or maybe I was reflecting on whether or not I should step in. I don't know. It was maybe a mixture of both but I did tuned back in with hearing a "YOU'RE GOING TO HELL FOR THAT! HOW YOU GUNNA PUT YOUR HANDS ON ME AND BE A DEACON?"

The man responded: "Hey I may be a deacon but I still love sex! I can put my hands on you if I want, we're all human"

The woman: "Where do you fellowship?"
The "deacon": "Grace Baptist. It's up on *names the street*"

The woman: "Oh..."
The "deacon": "Look we're all human. I like sex. Just like some people like alcohol. Some people like both but I like sex. I'm a dirty man. No one's perfect and I think God will understand that."

'What Bible are you reading???' I thought to myself.

The man who sells the candy said: "Yup you can write that on my tombstone! I'm a dirty man"

The deacon and the candy man laughed while the woman said nothing. I was appalled. I felt this hollow feeling inside of me but most of all I felt offended. I did NOT want them to lead my sister to think that it's okay to sin because everyone is doing it. I wanted to say something but didn't have the energy to debate with these men. I had no words to say to her anyway, just a mixture of burning feelings.

I debated with myself wondering if I should stay or go. Seeing the maintenance man I asked him "Have you seen the mailman?" To which he responded "No. They switched the other lady's route around and got a new guy. He won't be here till probably around two." I thanked him and left. I'm glad to know that Christ will continue to do a work in her. Sad to know that there are people who are out in the "church" who actually think that way and are that ignorant to the gospel. And still wondering if I should have been the one to share it with him.
