And down from the trees
Loosened by rainfall
And autumn’s crisp breeze
Colours that childhood
Had kicked cross the lawn
Piled into play-house.
Those simple years gone.
Skeletal branches
Bemoaning their pride
Summertime verdure
That crinkled and died.
Branches that clatter
In winter’s harsh blow
Trusting in spring’s hope
That new buds will grow.
What shall befall us
E'er new leaves be found?
Change comes to all
As the seasons go 'round.
