“Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor; not lagging behind in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer, contributing to the needs of the saints, practicing hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.” (Romans 12:9-14 NASB1995)
As followers of Jesus Christ, we are on a spiritual battle field with our enemy Satan on the other side, and with God on our side, providing that we are literally on his side via walks of surrender to his will, living holy lives pleasing to him, forsaking our sinful practices, and now walking in conduct in obedience to his commands, in practice, by the Spirit, in the power of God. This does not make us perfect people, but we must no longer be making sin our practice, and righteousness and obedience to God must be our practice.
But when we do surrender our lives to the Lord, to be wholly His, to do his will, to no longer walk in sin, but now to obey our Lord with our lives, our enemy and his demons, and those who serve him, will be against us, and they will use all sorts of trickery and manipulation and attacks against us to get us to give up the fight, to back down, to run away, and to no longer pursue righteous and godly and holy living. But we must not give in to them or fear them, but we must stay the course and keep obeying our Lord.
And one of the tricks that our enemy will try to use against us is to get us to believe his lies. For the lies will not be outright and obvious to those who do not know his tricks, but they will be a skillful blend of truth and lies mixed together so cleverly that the lies will fool many people. For they sound better than the truth, in many ways. For the lies are intended to appease the flesh, and do not require walks of obedience to the Lord and death to sin. So they won’t include lists of “do this,” and “don’t do this,” as God’s word requires.
So the lies teach a “feel good” half-truth (lie) gospel which allows the “believer” in Christ to profess faith in the Lord, but then to continue in his sin, and not in walks of obedience to our Lord. So there are no moral values being stressed in these lies, either. And so hypocrisy can easily exist without any rebuke under the “feel good gospel.” For you don’t have to abhor evil, but you can continue in it, and you don’t have to cling to what is good, and you don’t have to love one another, either, under this false gospel.
That is what Satan wants you to believe. And if they teach “love” at all, it is not biblical love, which comes from God, and which is based in moral purity, and which honors what God honors, and which prefers what God prefers. But they teach a very human-based “feelings oriented love” which is of the flesh and not of God, and which is contingent on our emotions rather than on what is right and godly and morally pure. So, don’t call it “love” if it is lust, and if it is just using other people for your own advantage and pleasure.
But, as believers in Jesus Christ, we are to be followers of Christ who have died with him to sin and who are now walking in obedience to his commands, by his grace, in his power. For his grace, which is bringing us salvation, is training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives while we wait for our Lord’s return. So we are to be those who abhor what is evil (sinful) and who cling to (adhere to) what is good in the eyes of the Lord, as he taught us.
Our lives are no longer to be lived for self and for selfish desires, but we are now to do what is pleasing to God and what is loving, kind, and beneficial spiritually and physically and emotionally to other people, according to God’s design, will, and purpose for our lives. But, in our day and time here on the earth, if we are following the truth of God’s word, taught in context, and if we are rejecting the lies of the enemy, we are going to be opposed, rejected, hated, persecuted, and cast aside as though we are the enemy.
But we must not let that hold us back from serving the Lord. We must daily be dressed in God’s spiritual armor (Ephesians 6:10-20) so that we can fight off Satan’s lies and his vicious attacks against us. And this means that we must be students of the Scriptures who study them in their appropriate context (not out of context), and who are putting into practice daily, by the Spirit, what our God instructs that we must do as his followers. For if sin is our practice, and not obedience to God, we have not eternal life with God.

Bombs are bursting. Night is falling.
Jesus Christ is gently calling
You to follow Him in all ways.
Trust Him with your life today.
Make Him your Lord and your Savior.
Turn from your sin. Follow Jesus.
He will forgive you of your sin;
Cleanse your heart, made new within.
Men betraying: Our trust fraying.
On our knees to God we’re praying,
Seeking God to give us answers
That are only found in Him.
God is sovereign over all things.
Nothing from His mind escaping.
He has all things under His command,
And will work all for good.
Jesus Christ is gently calling
You to follow Him in all ways.
Men deceiving: We’re believing
In our Lord, and interceding
For our nation and its people
To obey their God today.
He is our hope for our future.
For our wounds He offers suture.
He is all we need for this life.
Trust Him with your life today.
