“Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow. In the exercise of His will He brought us forth by the word of truth, so that we would be a kind of first fruits among His creatures.” (James 1:7-8 NASB1995)
Only God is good, in the purest sense of the word “good,” and so only he can give what is purely good – things like faith in God, repentance, forgiveness, salvation from sin, eternal life with God, biblical encouragement, life direction, empowerment of God, holiness, righteousness, godliness, moral purity, faithfulness, truth, honesty, kindness, integrity, obedience to God, and agape love which prefers all that God prefers, which is all of the above, and which submits to the will and purpose of God for one’s life practices.
Our God is the Father of lights. And light, in this context, is all that is truth, righteousness, holiness, godliness, and moral purity, etc., in the eyes of God, but not necessarily also in the eyes of humans. And Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, who is God, is the Light. He is the Word of God. He is the essence of all that is truth and righteousness, etc. And we have the Word of God written down for us in the Scriptures, but none of us have the original manuscripts, so some translations will vary in some areas. Be discerning.
And God is not like humans. He does not hold to one belief and teaching at one time and then change to another and then go back to the original but then change to another again, and so on and so forth. His Word does not fluctuate on the basis of circumstances and moods and temptations to sin, and he is never tempted to sin, either, for he is wholly pure in who he is and in what he says and does. And he is not a chameleon who changes colors depending upon circumstances or who he is with, either. He is fully PURE!
So, God is not going to tell you in his word that salvation from sin and eternal life with God, which come from God, and which are gifted to us of God, are dependent upon us surrendering our lives to the Lord, repenting of (turning away from) our sins, and following the Lord in obedience to his commands, in practice, as evidence that our faith is of God, and not of the flesh of man, and then change his mind. He is not going to tell you that belief in Jesus now requires no repentance and no obedience to God.
For his plan and his purpose for our lives, in saving us from our sins, and in giving us the hope of eternal life with God, is that we will now bow the knee to God in humble surrender of our lives to him, in service to him, in dying with him to sin and in walking in obedience to his commands, in practice, by the Spirit, empowered by God. He is now to be Lord of our lives and we are now to follow him wherever he leads us in being the people of God he desires of us to be, in his service, following him wherever he leads us.

Humbly I bow, Lord, before You,
Bringing my requests to You.
May I listen; hear You speaking.
May I follow You in truth.
Gently lead me in Your service.
Guide my steps and strengthen me.
Fill me with Your love and mercy.
May I live for Thee!
Let me be Your servant witness,
Telling others of Your grace.
May I always share the gospel
With those I meet face to face.
May I show the love of Jesus,
Caring for the needs of men;
Be Your servant witness always
For my Lord, Amen!
My desire to be like Jesus,
Living for Him ev’ry day.
May I obey all His teachings
Given me, so I’ll not stray.
Love You, Jesus, Lord, my master.
You are the King of my heart;
Follow You where’er You lead me;
Not from You depart!
