Here are a few random thoughts about this passage of Ephesians
The Helmet of Salvation. For me this is the key that further enlightens and renews our mind with the MIND of CHRIST. Nothing of value can happen spiritually unless this is put on. I know whom I have believed in. However, reminding ourselves of the great work our Lord has done and praising Him daily for his mercy renews and strengthens our position in Christ. If at this time we sense any shadow or veil or wall in fellowship with our Father we can then confess agreeing with the truth of Gods word that we are sinners and be once more renewed in Faith through the grace of God. We believe the truth of God's word that repels the lies of Satan and we gird or strengthen ourselves in that Word as we read and meditate on it.
Our faith is our shield and we remind ourselves that this Faith worketh only by Love and is not puffed up haughty or overbearing.
Our only offensive weapon is the Sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God. With our helmet and shield of faith fully in place we are protected from the darts or condemning thoughts that Satan would throw at us. I always visualize the flaming arrows going over the medieval fortress walls to burn the inside wood structures. Some are angry words or put downs or temptations from those around us some are thoughts we only know about. We are protected from these and recognize them for what they are rejecting the condemnation they could bring or the lure of temptation. As the Bible says we resist the devil and he flees.
The shoes and the gospel of peace to me symbolize the balance between faith and works that every successful Christian life must contain. We can't just be all talk; there must be fruit in our lives that the world can witness too. We must also be obedient to walk in the Good Works that the Father has for-ordained for us to walk in.The breastplate is the confidence that we stand in Jesus righteousness because of what he has done for us in dying and paying the price for our sins on the cross. We are not puffed up as we walk this earth but must be filled with humility and love knowing that there but for the grace of God go I. When we are attacked, that breastplate assures us we are one with Christ and His righteousness lives in us. Jan
