Culture is a crazy thing...

I confess to being mildly frustrated

I've been participating in the ol' "is it wrong to have drink in a bar"-type thread. It truly is staggering to me that there are such incredible hang-ups & prejudices against people enjoying a beer or a nice glass of wine  Actually to the point of insinuations about a person's walk with the Lord. Such a lot of misinformation, fear & paranoia...

But what I find most weird is that the same people will defend to the death their right to take the life of another person, should they break into their home or be percieved to be any kind of threat; and who think that teaching their children to go knocking on strangers' doors demanding sweets under threat of mischief, and to carve pagan lanterns out of pumpkins & generally celebrate a festival dedicated to darkness is not only acceptable but to be encouraged!

I have tried & failed to get any kind of Biblical support for putting one's faith in a deadly weapon, or indulging in pagan feast days, and yet I'm told that Jesus didn't really drink wine, but non-alcoholic grape juice! I'm not even going to get into just how ludicrous that assertion is, and how historically inaccurate (just how long do they think unfermented grape juice would stay unfermented in 1st century Palestine, with no means of refrigeration?!! Sheesh!)

Anyhow, I'm frustrated. Can you tell? It's all about culture - US culture supports guns & paganism, but sees alcohol as the great adversary - and so many Christians seem to follow the culture of the country they live in, over & above the Word of God... :sigh:

Ho hum, I'll be over it tomorrow...
