Have you ever made a promise? Gave your word? Has there ever been a time when you broke a promise? Why is it so easy to turn a promise into a compromise?
Recently, I realized how much I was able to compromise. It is just in the little things really, but the Bible tells us that it is the little foxes that destroy the vine. In other words, it is the lowly termite that can cause the house to come crashing down.
Same way with compromise. I can remember when I vowed to not watch certain movies on television. The vow went unchallenged until I was REALLY interested in the storyline and wanted to see how the movie ended. So? Compromise.
Compromise is just like the little termite. Crunching and munching away silently and you are none the wiser. Until the front door falls off the hinges or when the whole foundation starts to crumble.
As a Christian, our foundation is nothing less than Jesus Christ and His Cross. If we are building our house on anything else but Him and His righteousness, well then we are just inviting the termites of religion, self righteousness or our good works to destroy what we have built.
I don't want to be a compromising Christian. It is my desire to stand for Jesus even when I would rather just sit down and go with the flow. Not make waves.
Jesus said, " Take up your Cross daily". The cross is heavy, It messes up my life. It is inconvenient and not the popular thing to do.
Jesus loved us so much that He didn't compromise. He took up His cross for you and me.
Father, please help me to take up my Cross daily and not to compromise when the world or my selfishness wants me to lay it back down.
