The following thread was trending today: What's the differences between love & lust ...( More)
The Question: Given a Christian Society where people are working to most follow God and be Godly, what would Christian dating look like and why?
The above question is an important one to think about. A family that is Christian may have expectations for their children. Given the rest of society has different expectations, that makes it difficult to raise children to be God fearing? There are a lot of extra temptations, pressures, and influences that may lead someone astray?
Christians are a Body of Christ. When they take communion they eat of the body and drink of the blood. In the Body, some are the hands, some the feet, some the mouth, some the eyes. Some are Apostles, some are Prophets, some are Pastors, some are Evangelists. We all have a function in the Body. A society of believers. We are a Body of Christ, an Organic Society. (Ephesians 4:11-16)
Who has control of the reins of morality? Many people say that the US is a Christian Nation. Nation is referencing culture like language, heritage, identity, religion, and so on. In the US, people celebrate Christmas and Easter, at school they may sing Christmas Chorals, the US is or has been a Christian Nation rooted in Christian traditions. Who controls the reins of morality? Is it Christian people working to build the Kingdom of God, or something else? Where has society been headed?
Given your left hand causes you to sin, cut it off. Given your left eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. Is x or y celebrity causing people to sin? Given a Christian society, that person should be cut off. No more publicity. No more influence. More so than dating, at this time, the biggest piece of the puzzle for Christians working to build the Kingdom of God, is forming Christian communities. Mainstream America has increasingly become something "Not Christian?" Christians should not be part of it as it is? Christians building the Kingdom of God need to make non-Christians chase them to some degree? God is awesome. People choose God. People should be motivated to come to church, and Church is something desirable. Given there is no clear distinction between Christian and Secular Humanist and/or Non-Christian, it is hard to tell bad fruit from Good fruit?
In terms of dating, in the thread I linked, I gave an illustration of a matchmaker.
A matchmaker is not wrong. In "Fiddler on the Roof" there is a Matchmaker for example. Christian societies who value good morals have tended towards courting. Have you ever played the game "Old Maid?" An Old Maid may have been a 21 year old woman who was unmarried. In courting, a young woman is courted by a number of suitors. That would be more like a Jane Austen novel? That may not be wrong.
Regardless of what a Christian communities would like to do, the #metoo movement provides a teachable moment, and opportunities to grab those reins of morality. Someone has to be a savage, and really go after them, and be prepared to weather hate, draw a line, and be able to compare and contrast.
I don't care to write a lot about it at this time.
