But, It Is Mine!

She was holding tight this old, torn, and battered comforter so close. Comforter bought at least 20 years back and passed on to me from my best friend. Somehow this caught her attention few years back and ever since, she carries it everywhere, up and down, on the bed and the couch. Wherever she is, you may find this old comforter laying next. Occasionally, she runs to it and holds tight.

I asked, “Baby, can mommy buy you a new comforter? This is sooooooo old.”

She immediately declined, “No mom, no.”

I continued to insist, “Sweetie, this is so old, see, torn in many places.”

But she responded sternly, “But mom, THIS IS MINE!”

I smiled, I didn’t dare to say anything more.

I was reminded of every question I had, doubts, desperation, guilt, and shame.

I asked my Heavenly Father more than once, “Lord, I am a sinner, I am bad, You know my struggles, is it not clear?”

I sat in amazement many times, “Why Lord me? This kind of love even to death, really for me? It doesn’t make sense!”

For all of it, there is one resoundingly stern response, “But, YOU ARE MINE!”

With a smile I moved on, and never asked again. I choose to simply cherish this truth until I see Him face to face. I want you to hear this today, “I’m absolutely convinced that nothing—nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable—absolutely nothing can get between us and God’s love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us.”(Romans 8:38-39, MSG).
