Behind A Mask Of Smiles

Is what we speak, of David’s Root?
Is what we do, God’s will?
We see the tree we see the fruit
We see the graveyards fill

Stylishly dressed in suit and gown
Our lives display no flaw
Yet still we play the devil’s clown
We live as Satan’s harlot

We swagger down the churches aisles
Content we’ll sit in pews
But God can see our mask of smiles
Can see behind our ruse

These hypocrites, is loud the cry
The world shrinks back in awe
In spiritual rags yet children die
Outside the churches door

Life’s stumbling blocks of flesh and bone
So constant through each age
Will stand before our God alone
When Judgement turns their page

But is this how the saved should live?
When raised and Jesus’ bride
Has not the church the world to give
If Christ in truth’s inside

If Jesus’ Spirit set us free
If Jesus’ love we share
But how is God’s light in us to see
Gorging the devil’s fare

Is God exalted in our thought?
Delighted in our deeds?
Is this the truth Christ Jesus taught?
