Genesis 1:28
God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
Yay for oodles of nuggets! So like all young people my opinions on life have changed drastically. If you had asked me how many kids I wanted five years ago I would have said none! NONE NONE NONE! But then I grew up and I found such a joy in working with kids and being around them. My ideas grew as I grew up. I no longer hated kids but thought they may not be so bad so I decided maybe just one or two. Then about two years ago I made the decision I wanted a starting line up of basketball players so I would need five little boys. I am convinced, however, that boys who grow up in households with 3 boys and no girls end up having problems understanding women when they get older. I don’t want that for my miniature Chicago Bulls! So I decided I need a girl, but I can’t have just one girl. If I only have one then the boys will gang up on her and she will be a Tomboy and still be no help to the boys. So I need two girls to go with my five boys. In five years I went from no chance do I want kids to I need seven little rugrats.
But yet again my ideas changed. After falling in love with the Duggar family on TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting, I thought to myself perhaps I should go into scripture and see what God has to say about my possible little ones. “Be fruitful and increase in number;” sounds delightful. The Bible is filled with the concept of growing God’s kingdom and creating offspring that number in the stars or the dust or the sand. The Lord can make a barren women bare a child. Perhaps my idea on having my starting lineup and two cheerleaders is rather silly, just as silly as having no children.
Finally my idea is that I do not have much of a say in how many children God chooses to bless me with. When the time comes I will do my part to grow His kingdom and raise little ones that will glorify him, but I should stop trying to plan. He gives all good things to those who allow Jesus to rule their lives and by me taking backseat perhaps that means he will bless me with offspring that cannot be counted like the dust in the desert.
Hopefully my future husband has the same idea as me. Or maybe I will change again.
Dear Lord,
You are the beginning and the end. Only you know how many little monsters I should have. Not me, my mother, my future husband, just you. Please allow me to be humble enough to accept any number of children you will grant to me in the right time.
Thank you for your blessings.
Amen
