Proverbs 13:22
A good person leaves an inheritance for their children’s children, but a sinner’s wealth is stored up for the righteous.
This is a delightful verse in my opinion because it literally encourages wise financial choices. At this day in age we have so many people living outside of their means. It’s a very sad epidemic it seems in our country and is happening for a number of reasons.
Of course the economy is has been rough for years now and it seems the cost of living goes up, but income goes down. Between people losing their homes, skyrocketing gas prices, and massive national debt it is no secret we don’t know how to use our money effectively.
But, “a good person leaves an inheritance for their” grand nuggets! Say what!? I have to make so much that my grandchildren will have some. That sounds super difficult. Perhaps the problem isn’t making money it is making those annoying yet practical choices with finances.
I am a fan of TLC and one of my more favorite shows on the channel is Extreme Couponing. These people save TONS on their groceries. I admire their abilities to save and plan. That is so not me…unfortunately. I have made several attempts and have never been able to it quite like them. Couponing is just one way to save money.
The Duggars from 19 Kids and Counting (another TLC show) have a policy of buy used save the difference. I have really thought about this lately because a lot of people I have talked to (and myself) get grossed out at the idea of having things that belong to someone else, yet my car is used, my house is used, what is the difference with a t-shirt? I believe this is one of those “personal problems” that I am just going have to get over.
If I am going to be a stay-at-home mom like I would like to be then I am going to have to figure out how to save money. Living on one income in any economy is difficult. Saving money is something that I am sure my husband will need me to work on. I will start now! You should too
For those of you that know how to save money I ask for help! Leave a comment or send an e-mail to help me out please.
Dear Lord,
Thank you for giving me the blessings of not having to think too much about money yet. I ask that you please help me learn to appreciate and stretch a dollar. I would also like to be rid of the “ick factor” when it comes to used goods.
Thank you for your blessings.
Amen
