The New Earth
As he opened his eyes, Sam saw the face of Jesus. For a few moments both looked at each other wordlessly, and then Christ said, “Welcome.” Sam looked around him. “This is… it.” Christ smiled and replied, “This is it.” Sam looked down at himself; he had a body, but it was something more glorious and brighter than his body from before. “Look around you,” Jesus told him. Sam did, and as he did he saw things more beautiful than he could’ve ever looked upon while on earth—that is, the earth before.
He ran forward a few steps, excited beyond measure. “That—why that’s the Empire State Building off in the distance, isn’t it? And there—is that Abraham Lincoln? Over there! Who is that? What is all this?” Jesus laughed and said, “This is your new home.” Sam was astounded. “Look, look! Are those the northern lights? And in the water, is that—is that a group of whales? They’re monstrous! Bigger than I’ve ever seen!” Sam went on and on about all the things he saw, from shining horses to praising angels to reunited families and—
Sam froze. He stopped thinking, stopped looking at everything around him, and simply whispered, “Are those my parents?”
“Yes,” was Jesus’ reply, and Sam could barely stay on his feet. “It’s here! It’s all here, and—and—I just don’t know what to do!”
Sam wanted to dance, but he couldn’t. He wanted to sing, but no words would come from his mouth. He wanted to cry, but no tears would fall from his eyes. He turned to look at Jesus. He was completely filled with awe at his Creator. “I don’t know what to do,” he said. “It’s just all so much more than I ever imagined.” Jesus grinned wide and told him, “That’s okay. You’ve got forever to figure it out.”
