I'm definitely no Activist, but in my early 20's I did volunteer about 3-4 days a week, for an hour to two each day, at a no-kill animal shelter for about 10 and a half months.
I could never intentionally kill an animal, unless I knew for sure that it was going to die, and to simply put it out of its misery.
Example: I use to live with a relative, and we lived on a highway road.
We would take in cats. We would get them fixed, and they would become, out door indoor kitties. On average, we would have between 2-4 at a time. Sadly, sometimes people would come and dump their animals and leave them. My uncle would leave the left over food outside at night, out near the shed/barn. Sometimes possums, raccoons, skunks, other cats, and all sorts of critters would come eat. Not the cat food, but there was one of those trees in our back yard that had seeds in a small looking bananas type thing that would fall from the tree. Sometimes I'd get to see full grown Deer eating em in the backyard. So pretty. So peaceful.
Anyways, I'm rambling. So anyways, this was several years ago, and it was night time. We were calling for the cats to come in. We couldn't find one of them. Finally I look on the road. The cat was still alive, but its stomach was split open, and i'll just keep it at that. It was going to die, no matter what. I took it in the back yard, and took a shovel too its neck. Then I burried it. I almost cried(I know I shouldn't say this as a man, and I consider myself to be very tough with most things, but when it comes to animals, I have a severe soft spot).
Maybe 5 months ago, it was day out, and it was on the way, just before going down a hill, and I was driving. People were all getting over to the right lane, so I did as well. There was a dead deer in the left lane. After going down the hill, I turned a ue, and went back up, then another ue. I pulled off in a turn, near where the deer was. I had some gloves in the back of my trunk. I waited till the road was clear, and pulled the full grown deer into the grass. It was already dead, it didn't need to be ran over again. Not only that, but it was a hazard for anyone driving. I think to myself, what if there were children in someone's car and they hit it? or it could have easily caused a car wreck. The next day, I drove past the same place, and the dead deer was gone.
I remember, when I was like 13 or something, going to spend the night at my uncle house. Sometimes one of the cats would catch a baby rabbit, and I would catch them carrying it around in their mouths. I stayed up really late feeding it, with a dropper. Unfortunately, as a young dumb kid, I didn't realize that you can easily overfeed baby rabbits. So it died, but my heart was in the right place.
My cat, Mr. Boots is snoring right now. lol. He's a mane coon, black and white.
