Always The Same

If Christ as Lord we can’t confess
If Heaven’s not our goal
Our errant heart’s festooned with stress
And danger plagues our soul

How quick when wealth becomes our share
When life is less than sweet
So slow we are to come in prayer
Or sit at Jesus’ feet

Yet after all is said and done
As flesh returns to clay
The Lord of life God’s Lamb and Son
Will still His love display

How quick when sick our knees can bend
How oft we turn to pray
But suddenly God’s not our friend
Once healings come our way

How quick wallets can have no zips
When needs are on the street
Silver and gold can seal our lips
When joy is not complete

The joy that comes through Jesus Christ
The living God on high
When all to Him we’ve sacrificed
And to ourselves we die

Great fortunes come and fortunes go
Man’s pride turns oft to shame
Though warm spring rains devour snow
Yet God remains the same

Quick with His love and love’s reward
Quick when a soul’s to win
And quick He’ll wield His judgement sword
On those who’ve lived to sin
