It struck me quite forcefully this morning in my Scripture time that the whole Bible--from Genesis to Revelations inclusive--can be condensed down into ONE COMMANDMENT:
"THOU SHALT LOVE!"
And, secondly, that there is only one true evidence of our "lovingness"--our orientation towards our "enemies."
And, thirdly, for the first time i REALLY understood Luther's injunction: "Love, and do what you will."
i used to be very negative to this quote, thinking that it meant that we were "eternally secure" and that our actions did not figure into the equation.
Now, i see quite clearly--PRAISE GOD!--that if we are Loving as we are told to be, we CANNOT SIN.
St. John's First Epistle is GLORIOUS in this regard!
