All Other Ground Is Sinking Sand

It's kind of funny the songs we sing at church. We have a contemporary band playing, we sing a mixture of praise songs and hymns that have been adapted for the band. I never seem to know which songs are hymns, though, since most of them are new to me.

We have been singing this song, and I assumed it was a new(ish) song, but I saw it in the cyberhymnal and saw it was written about 1834.

The Solid Rock
http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/m/y/myhopeis.htm

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly trust in Jesus’ Name.

Refrain
On Christ the solid Rock I stand,
All other ground is sinking sand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

When darkness seems to hide His face,
I rest on His unchanging grace.
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.

Refrain

His oath, His covenant, His blood,
Support me in the whelming flood.
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my Hope and Stay.

Refrain

When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh may I then in Him be found.
Dressed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne.

Refrain

I really like this song. When God pulled me out of the RLDS church, it was with the awareness that He can be trusted to keep His promises. Before that I wasn't aware of how what I believed implied that He couldn't. Or didn't. I don't know which one. But I am glad to be free now to worship Him in spirit and truth, knowing the truth.
