Adam and Eve were children. Whether or not they were physically children or mentally children, they were children. They were best friends. They loved God like children love their parents when they were young. How happy they must have been when they saw God. It was like “Daddy’s home!” They didn’t care what other people thought, they didn’t think about how he was providing, they didn’t doubt him and question what he was doing. They just loved him. They were his children and he was their dad.
So one day Eve was tricked into doing something forbidden. Adam chose Eve over God and joined Eve. “24Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. 25And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.” God knew that his children would one day choose to be on their own.
When the children ate of the tree of knowledge, they began to change. They started growing up. How painful is it to watch your children growing up, knowing that the day will come when no one will be at the door screaming “Daddy’s home!”
But if you could keep them as children forever, would you? Would you stop them from becoming more? Would you stop them from growing up, learning new things, understanding life and you in different ways, having the ability to make their own decisions, and knowing what it is to be an adult?
If you love hearing “Daddy’s home!” with unashamed love from a child, how much more does it mean when your child is an adult?
Why did God let Adam and Eve eat the apple? He loved them enough to let them grow up.
