Introduction
For the last few weeks, I have been traversing a Christian website that holds a large forum that is open to discussions about most anything. Normally, with all the ridiculous nonsense that’s written there, by people calling themselves Christians, I wouldn’t bother even responding to the posts.
However, there’s one sub-forum that I particularly enjoy frequenting: the Marriage Forum. Some of the meanest, most idiotic people you will ever find visit that area, and offer opportunities to “discuss” many different topics. I do this because of my ever increasing interest in what I like to call, “The Typical Christian Marriage”.
One thing I have learned over the last few weeks is that there are two subjects that will always induce an argument from someone: submission, and sex. You would think that Christians would have no problem discussing these two things, but as it is, these two topics are a sure-fire way to turn a normal discussion into a full-blown argument.
For example, a thread about submission was started a month or so back; the woman who started it was merely asking how couples applied the Biblical view on submission to their marriage(Ephesians 5:22-23 “22Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. 23For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.). She was attacked from all directions by women who said, “Wives don’t have to submit. That’s indoctrination put on you by men who lust for power and control. I will pray that God gives you the strength to lead your marriage”.
Pretty soon sex was brought into the discussion by those same women who said, “Men use that ’submit’ scripture to force their wives to have sex with them, when it really is your choice. Don’t let him control you! Be ware!” And, somehow, the topic went from a discussion on healthy, submission and respect, to the most ridiculous anti-male thread I’ve ever seen.
This caused me to ask the question, “Why are so many women threatened by the idea of submitting to their husbands?” I studied why, and have found at least a couple reasons. This series is meant to not only reveal those reasons, but to compare them to Scripture. I will also be using basic psychology studies to better understand the mentality and reasoning behind some of these outlandishly hysterical ideas.
This series will cover a handful of women to whom I will give completely random names. Their points, ideas, ways of thinking as well as -almost- exact quotes will be accurate, but their names will not. I hope this series will help you as much as it has helped me.
Please note that I am not, and have no intentions of, making light of any horrific situation that may be deemed extreme, nor am I trying to point fingers, or make this about myself, or put blame for anything onto any one particular person or gender. I am merely performing a study, and will be posting my thoughts and findings therein.
