46. there's secrets in this life that i can't hide

The darkness is lifting. Like a mist above the surface of water, it is murky now, but light is sifting through. It is still heavy, suffocating, but every now and then there is a breath of fresh air, ambrosia.

please die, ana,
for as long as you're here, we're not
you make the sound of laughter
and sharpened nails seem softer
and i need you now somehow
and i need you now somehow

Heavy limbs, lifting heavenwards - or at least, the direction she thinks heaven is. She's not sure whether she is lifting her arms up, it is so hard to move; she coughs in the thick air, choking on the darkness. But then - a lone sunbeam strikes through the gloom and illuminates her - covered with scars from her struggles, but still strong and determined to make it back to life.

imagine pageant
in my head
the flesh seems thicker
sandpaper tears corrode the film
and i need you now somehow
and i need you now somehow

A tear falls down her dirty cheek, clearing a pale path through the grime collected there from countless battles with herself. She closes her eyes, finding simple pleasure in the fleeting warmth of the sunbeam, until it leaves and she is left in the dark again.

and you're my obsession
i love you to the bones
and ana wrecks your life
like anorexia life

But now she knows that the sun is out there. Now she knows, because she has seen it. And she is determined - so very determined - that she will find it again. She lifts her bowed head and pushes herself to her feet. She knows that although it is dark, the ebon shadows are lifting - enough light is seeping through the blackness for her to see the path she must take. It is a steep uphill footpath, rough, and in some places she knows there will be boulders and steep rock faces for her to surmount... but she knows that somewhere, somehow there is a peak, where she will see the sun, where she will breathe fresh air, and where she will live again.

Lyrics from "Ana's Song" by Silverchair.
