Voters should remember what happened under Woodrow Wilson

Washington - I'm thinking of an American president who demonized ethnic groups as enemies of the state, censored the press, imprisoned dissidents, bullied political opponents, spewed propaganda, often expressed contempt for the Constitution, approved warrantless searches and eavesdropping, and pursued his policies with a blind, religious certainty.

Oh, and I'm not thinking of George W. Bush, but another "W" – actually "WW": Woodrow Wilson, the Democrat who served from 1913 to 1921.

President Wilson is mostly remembered today as the first modern liberal president, the first (and only) POTUS with a PhD, and the only political scientist to occupy the Oval Office. He was the champion of "self determination" and the author of the idealistic but doomed "Fourteen Points" – his vision of peace for Europe and his hope for a League of Nations. But the nature of his presidency has largely been forgotten.

Abuses of the U.S. Constitution are not confined to those advocating or identified as being "progressive." A conservative is just as capable of undermining the U.S. Constitution as a liberal/progressive (I can immediately list several U.S. Constitution violations committed by Lincoln, such as suspending the Writ of Habeas Corpus, he had 13,000 people arrested under Martial Law, ignored a ruling by Chief Justice Taney of the U.S. Supreme Court that Lincoln could not suspend the Writ of Habeas Corpus, and gave an order to the military to have anyone arrested for subversive speech.)

The point is, merely being a progressive is not and indication in and of itself one is inclined to predisposed to violate the U.S. Constitution, anymore than being a conservative.

Who says that modern liberals want a "Woodrow Wilson-type" as president? He sure doesn't embody what a modern liberal is supposed to be like. So why is he even being mentioned?
Maybe because the person who wrote the opinion piece has written a book called "Liberal fascism" (And calls liberalism as "enlightened nazism") and tries to do the best he can to discredit absolutely everything about liberalism?

Just a guess.
