is there such thing as nothing? Can there be a nothing? Maybe nothing is impossible.

you have a point...

if we have an empty container, there is still air in it, so it is not really empty. But if we take all the air from it, whats in the container? nothing, but there will still be space there...

how would you get rid of that space? and if you do get rid of it, what will be there instead of it? (black hole?? that's all i can think of that could be opposite of space)

The big bang created space and time, but then what was there before the big bang began? And the big bang is expanding right now, what is it expanding to? I mean, for something to expand, doesn't it need extra available space for it to expand?

And if there were no God and no Universe, what would everything look like? Nothing? an infinite black hole?

So, if things originally never existed, something to create all of this must have existed for ever...

We don't know if God exists, we don't have proof. But we know that "Nothing" has existed for ever. Maybe we just really don't understand "Nothing" fully. Maybe a Really Truly Nothing is a black hole, then big bang was created in a black hole...

(some of my opinions, they are not scientificly correct so don't take this literally)

Actually its an interesting thought. That nothing is something. What existed before god? Nothing. So Nothing is older than god. So god isnt really the oldest thing around.

Hehe, fun with words. :)

Really we dont understand many things, but we have a nature to instantly put God where we dont understand.
Many creationists dont understand evolution, so they put god in place of it.
For those that understand evolution, god gets put at the creation of life.
For those who understand abiogenesis, god gets put before the big bang.

When using god like this, he seems more like a psycological manifestation of our fear of the unknown and our need for a protective father figure to defend against it.
but thats getting OT of the thread. :)

Of course god *could* have existed before the big bang. But he isnt the only answer, and just because we dont know, doenst me we should imediatly shove god into that space of no knowledge.

God is supposed to of had no beginning and have no end. But considering that inceredibly the universe is here and there is something then why not God?

The problem is that god has been put into the place of the "unknown" way too often, and way too often he gets pushed out.

Remember, the first god seemed to have come about because people didnt know what caused lightning and were afraid of death. So they said "god" makes lighting and then created an afterlife to relieve their fear of death.

We believe our God is the first (and only) God, so this ''first'' god of yours would immediately be disqualified from that postition in a Christians eyes.

Well, I ment first gods. It may be disqualified in your mind, but its not in history.

God has been put in the place of unknowns quite often in history (including the christian god). As we have gained knowledge, god has been removed from that place and put somewhere else. This is why its dangerous to pitt god against science, is that god has yet to win one of the battles.

However, everythings fine if you realize that science is the study of gods creation.
