Our salvation is from sin, and sin is defined as the transgression of the Mosaic Law (1 John 3:4), so being trained by grace to do what is Lawful and to refrain from doing what is Lawless is an essential part of what our salvation is, not adding to our salvation (Titus 2:11). Christ gave himself to redeem us from all Lawless and to purify for himself a people of his own possession who are zealous for doing good works, which again is doing what is Lawful (Titus 2:14, Acts 21:20). We can't be saved from sin without it involving us repenting from our sins and turning back to obedience. We can't have faith in God to guide us in how we should live while not submitting to His guidance through His Law.
Sin is the transgression of the law and the law is much more than two tablets of stone. The bible also says that anything that is not from faith is sin. Sin is what you are not what you do. You were born a sinner before you did anything good or bad.
