I don't disagree. Just saying that people are going to complain when they do deviate from the existing canon, even if Disney has said they won't abide by it.

Disney didn't say "We won't abide by the canon." Lucas said, "That's not canon."

She says she's never flown it before and I find it hard to believe that she had any actual flight experience that involved combat or she wouldn't be spending her time collecting and selling junk. Why would the BIG BAD GUYS give TIE fighters to morons? What military does that? And yes it's the Falcon... it's still a frieghter that's not been maintained or flown in years just sitting in the sand.

And yet he gets away with nary a scratch.

And yet she had never flown the ship, knowing what the parts do in theory is a completely different story than knowning how to correctly use them in practice.

She's just a poorly written character, Finn has flaws too which bug me, brainwashed since birth to be loyal to the bad guys, first time he sees combat all that conditioning goes away and he decided to help the resistence. The same resistence which blindly accepts him and Rey for no apparent reason other than to advance the plot. If it's that easy to get to the leadership of the rebellion or whatever they are calling themselves then their enemies must be truly incompetent.

I enjoyed most of the performances though, I greatly enjoyed Boyegas performance and I hope to see ep VIII give Ridley something to do that seems like an actual challenge.
It was a poorly written film, I didn't see the film until after it left theaters, so I didn't have the hype coloring my perspective. However, it was a very enjoyable film.

I can accept the hand waving that Rey learn things without being trained with them, it's the force! But I also think the force awakening is happening with Finn too, that's the reason he resisted his programming/brainwashing. It's also the reason he was a prodigy using weapons, like using ship blasters and a light saber.

And don't get me started on plot devices, let's have Han Solo show up as soon as the Millennium Falcon leaves Jakku, you know, because they were scanning for it at that very moment. I happen to agree with one of my friend's assessments, it had to be "A New New Hope" because they wanted to erase the bad taste of the prequels from everyone's mouth to get them on board. Trying something new is a risk, so in true Hollywood fashion, recycle what know/love and add some new bells and whistles to get people excited about Star Wars again.

I just hope the next film is not called "Star Wars: Episode VIII - Snoke Forcibly Retaliates."

It was a poorly written film...

They were all poorly written films.

I just hope the next film is not called "Star Wars: Episode VIII - Snoke Forcibly Retaliates."

Regardless of its actual title, essentially it will be "The Empire Strikes Back II." Every moment of the film will be as predictable as waves cresting the shore, but Star Wars fans will dutifully drool all over it.

A few weeks ago, I was in a bus listening to two pre-teen girls explaining "Star Wars" to an adult. Their entire understanding of the Star Wars universe was based on the Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels series and the characters introduced there. Disney is closing out the "Skywalker Saga" and laying the groundwork for a multitude of characters intended to stretch until those pre-teens are doddering old folk like me.

The rest of us can just suck our gums.

Man, when are white males going to catch a break in society?

It astounds me how many men get twisted in knots whenever someone has power and a vagina simultaneously.

Are you seriously saying a fictional character has power?

Darth Bane would shake his head at Kylo Ren.
IMO that's sort of the point, and a large part of what made the character so compelling to me. Kylo Ren has undergone some form of arrested development. He's got too much power, too little understanding, some serious cognitive dissonance, and this makes him flawed, interesting. He's not a blank slate monster like Vader was - he's a real person, with real struggles, even if he is a sadistic little twerp, and has a lot of things we want to hate about him. It's a good thing we hate him - he's the bad guy.

I totally agree with all of the above.

I would add, Darth Maul, Count Dooku and Dark Sidious to that list. Though they recently released a novel of Sidious rise to power which helps flesh him out and give him some actual character but I'd wager 90% of Star Wars fans haven't read it.

Darth Maul was fleshed out in the Clone Wars series and has reappeared for more fleshing out in the Star Wars Rebels series.
