Can God send a troublesome time upon you in order to draw you closer to Him?
Yes. I don't know if your thread title means you're experiencing or have experienced this or are just curious to know if God does this?

My life was pretty bad, as I did things very wrong and sinful. I won't go into those things.

Recently, I had a terrible bout of stress and fell into a dark time.

Idk, something tells me it's God...in order to bring me closer.

I was frustrated and cussed God before, I'll admit.

It's like now, I desire to depend on Him.

My faith isn't where it needs to be, but I'm trying.

I'll reveal more about the situation:
I was into the occult for starters...
Sexual sins and battling demons of lust.
Was hooked on pills years ago because of stress and anxiety...mostly tranquilizers.
I have done and said things I feel are unforgivable.
The regret is strong, and I have landed in a very tough and dark place.
I have asked to be forgive in Jesus name, and I have been reading the bible...
Particularly Psalms, because I find some comfort.
I've asked God to no avail to help me become closer to him. Maybe he's putting me through all this anxiety and so on, in order to do this?
Idk...

My life has been very iffy and lukewarm.

Will God forgive me?

Does he send an answer?
I'm 43 years old, and l am ready to be on God's side.

I feel like Job sometimes, because of my anxiety, neuropathy and so on.

I hope God is there...
I hope he gives me another lease and chance at life and living in his word.

God's love is stronger than any guilt or condemnation you feel

To get an idea of how much God loves you, look at this verse

John 3:16 "For God so loved the World, that he gave his ONE AND ONLY Son"

God loves you so much that he sent his perfect son to die in place for your sins

In addition,
I think what's really held me back from having faith are things like:
Why did God let Hitler do what he did?
Or why does God let misery happen?
Children with cancer, so on...
It has become a wall of division.

But then again, I can't see the big picture...

I feel I'm going through a spiritual crisis.

Just sharing my thoughts and so on....

How have you asked him to forgive you?
I spent over 6yrs unrepentant and had prayed maybe a few times,
I also was involved in the occult at one point. (though as a teen into my twenties)
Spent all that unrepentant time in an adulterous relationship.
He forgave me, he called me back to repent,
Didn't know how i was going to do it,
He put it in my heart to cry but no matter how hard i tried i couldn't cry
So i Begged him to let me cry, over and over in prayer i begged him
It took several days and i fasted,
But he forgave me. (Hallelujah)

I've cried a few times.
Is that a sign you're forgiven? Or stress?

I feel as though He has forgiven me, but I found a passage in Proverbs...that makes me question Him:

Proverbs 1:24-26

I didn't repent until I fell into this time of trouble.
This verse and surrounding verses.

Idk, maybe I'm just doubting.

My faith needs work.

There's a difference between worldly sorrow and GODLY Sorrow,
In the end It's between you and the LORD.
Wish I could help you more but as I've no idea what you've experienced,
All I can say is, From My experience and keep in mind this is just my experience,
When I cried before the LORD,
it was out of Hurting him.
He put his Sorrow Upon me and I wept,

Hi there,

I'm new to this forum. My question is:
Can God send a troublesome time upon you in order to draw you closer to Him?

I am here looking for answers and just read the forum...
Perhaps other people's experiences and questions.

Thank you.
Hello and welcome to CF

He does not "send" troublesome times, but does allow them.

"Troubles" come from sin .... God's plan did not include sin .... sin is from the enemy.

We are told we will experience troublesome times .... why? Because there is sin in the world.

John 16:33

33These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Hi Leviishere. Welcome to CF. In answer to your question: Yes. I believe so. You mentioned Job, and satan was allowed to torment him for a while. That's worth remembering, as there is nothing that he or any other demon, god or force can do to a born again believer in Jesus Christ that God does not allow. Here's a good article that backs up what I'm saying with biblical verses: Why did God send an evil spirit to torment King Saul? | GotQuestions.org

I'm sure God has forgiven worse sinners than you Leviishere. I will pray that God draws you to Him. :praying:

Yes! God will forgive all your sins if you come to Him humbly and ask for forgiveness. The next thing to do is put your trust in that forgiveness.

We are all sinners. I have done some things in my past that I deeply regret, but I have found forgiveness in Jesus Christ, Yeshua Messiah. He paid the debt I could not pay myself by dying on the cross and in the incarnation where Christ is in the process of renewing creation.

The thing that is scary is when you don't care that you are a sinner because then you cannot repent and ask for forgiveness. But as long as you can go to God and ask to be forgiven, he will forgive you... Every. Single. Time. Trust in his sacrifice for you. Turn from your past sins and Jesus will accept you with open arms.

And I do believe that most people go through a "dark night of the soul," so to speak. It is most assuredly a way God wants to draw near to you during this time. I absolutely 100% believe that. With Job, he had it rough, but then, in the end, he got to see God face to face. His trial was meant to draw him closer to God. And I believe this is a template for us as we go through tough times.
