A gentle tongue [with its healing power] is a tree of life, but willful contrariness in it breaks down the spirit. Proverbs 15:4 AMP

There is nothing more soothing than a professional massage. Such a thing is beneficial because it disperses acid that builds up in the muscles, causing pain and discomfort. So, one comes away with a feeling of sweet release. One actually feels younger after such a treatment.

Many people do other things for their bodies, such as exercises, yoga, and a variety of workout programs. These activities do make one feel better and even add to physical and mental health. But many of us do not fully understand that life or death is in the power of the tongue. On a lesser scale, our choice of words either pulls people’s spirits down or lifts them up.

It might be beneficial to meditate on words that Jesus used. He expressed love toward sinners but was unmercifully vindictive in the company of phony religious people. Perhaps the most soothing words he used were “be healed.” They brought life to many that were sick and infirmed. Their lives became bright and productive.

So, it gets to down the question, “What words do we use?” Much is in the news lately concerning sexual harassment. The most severe use of such words gives women an unpleasant choice to surrender personal integrity or face unpleasant consequences. No person should be placed in such a position.

So, let’s take stock of the words we use. Few are neutral and affect the hearts of listeners for either good or bad.
