I have problems with sleeping..... BUT, it's different than most. It's not that I can't sleep, or go right to sleep~ I don't think I sleep deep enough. :o I ALWAYS crash into bed each night, sleep like a rock and wake up exhausted! Does anyone else feel this way? It doesn't matter if I get 8/10 of sleep either! I don't hardly EVER dream.

Could this have anything to do with iron, or not eating properly? I've been like this for at least 20 years. When I see the dr. they tell me that I "just have a busy life" and need to rest. It's more than that though. I've been tested for hypothyroid (of which I have 3/4 of the symptoms) and various other things. The dr. always says that my blood pressure is really good too..... so, I'm not sure what it could be.....

this is why I can't take naps. I sleep very very deep and then when I wake up I am a lot more tired then when I was awake before... and I get very sick to my stomach for some reason because of it. You might want to consider going to a sleep specialist.

You may want to get tested for sleep apena ..Its when you quit breating while your asleep you dont relize it until you wake up one night gasping for breath..
Indeed, that's what I was going to suggest, though a different type of sleep apnea than the one you mention. I'm sure there are many possibilities, however. With either type of sleep "apnea" you wake up numerous times during the night but usually not enough to remember waking up. One is also associated with snoring in case anyone has told you that you snore. This leads to being tired and exhausted even though you may have spent a good 10 hours in bed. It would also potentially be consistent with your lack of dreams (you don't stay asleep along enough to enter REM sleep) and the long history of your problem (it aint caused by a dietary deficiency or something along those lines). Of course the nonsnoring variety of sleep apnea (central sleep apnea) is rather rare so it may not be very likely that that is in fact your problem.

That I'm aware of, I don't have sleep apnea nor do I snore. I should probably be tested though.... I never thought of that being a reason I may not dream. Thanks so much!

WalkswithChrist, yes I do sleep with a fan running! Year round, I love the white noise!
Good old white noise!

I have sleep apnea and leg movement disorder (you kick throughout the night uncontrollably, waking up momentarily each time). How do you know you dont have apnea?

You may also have narcalepsy...which I also have. No matter how much quality sleep I get, I get uncontrollable sleepies and have to snooze briefly.

A sleep lab will tell you all you need to know.

I'd be highly doubtful that she has narcolepsy as nothing she states really suggests it. I'm not a doctor though of course.

I also can't sleep right away.
I go to sleep around 10:00pm and finally fall sleep at 12, the I wake up around 11:00am.
I can't do anything.
Sounds like your a teenager. Relax, 10 hours of sleep is not uncommon for people your age. Remember your body is going through a whole lot at your age and needs the rest. It needs rest to recover from your growing pains.
When I was your age there wasnt anything going on at night. No RPG's or internet, sattelite or cable TV. I played a lot of sports. That would wear me out. I also had homework and sleep was sweet relief from that.
I guess what Im trying to say is that its only recently that there have been things to do at night except get into trouble.
When you get older you will never seem to get enough sleep.
Have you ever noticed how people in their 80's just dont need much sleep?
Also, remeber that everybody has diferent sleep needs at different times in their lives. 12 hours of sleep wouldnt be unusual for some teenagers.

When I was your age, I always fell asleep to my favorite music. It just had to be something that I had heard a million times. Worked like a charm! Give it a try.

Everyone has 6-7 dreams each night, but you don't remember them. What type of food do you eat? Do you go to bed later than 11:00? If you do, you are more likely to feel worse in the morning than if you go to bed at 10:30. If you eat healthily and go to bed early enough, you should feel better in a few weeks time. If you exercise a lot then you should sleep better, but don't exercise just before you go to bed.
