Meridas. The name people once gave this land was Meridas, part of the three kingdoms of the north. The word Meridas actually meant heaven blessed because of the fertile soil and abundant wildlife. The king of Meridas was a power hungry man and looked for ways to expand his boarders. The western mountains were home to the Peirton. A creed of mages who created magical weapons from rare stones found in the mountain caves. In a desperate move the king gathered his army and invaded the western mountains. After six months of battle the Peirton were taken as prisoners of war and their weapons were handed over to the king. However the king had lost more than half his army against the Peirton and their magic. Thus began the tradition of Meridas heart. Once a man reached his 20th year he would serve in the kings army for the next ten years of his life. Over the next 20 years the Meridas army grew until they stood as the mightiest kingdom of the north. Fearing invasion the Conteel and Taoin pledged to serve the land of Meridas and it's king. The Conteel were mostly farmers from the golden plains to the east. While the Taoin were elven warriors that came from the forests of the north ocean islands. Once all three were under the same banner the king renamed all three territories Vos-theos, meaning lands of strength. Thus began the five year war with the neighboring kingdoms and lands. Non could contend with the might of the Vos-theosden army and in the end all flew the Vos-theos flag.
Of course that was long ago. What little information we have from that time is now stored in the library of Klin, capital of Vos-theos. These days Vos-theos has stood for more than 600 years without war. Having inherited the crown after his father died only two months ago the new ruler, King Markus is only 19. Today the practice of magic is used only in the army and by members of the kings court. Small villages dot across Vos-theos but most are built next to the royal highway. This is the longest stretch of road in the kingdom and leads from the capital to the eastern farming lands where the Conteel use it to send their monthly offerings to klin. It takes three days by horse. The north ocean islands have been stripped of their forests and the land is now being mined for coal. The citizens of Vos-theos are mostly of working class. Only a few from highly distinguished families get any chance of getting proper education. With their ancestral home gone the Taoin are now scattered all through the lands of Vos-theos and have melded into many different parts of the kingdom. From simple farmers to speakers in the king court the Taoin elves have become an integral part of the kingdom, but they have never forgotten their history or traditions. Other then that the land is simple. Horses are the main form of transportation. People live out their lives only to be replaced by their children and the sun rises on a new day.
