I had struggled to understand FSchmidt's motivations, as an atheist, to find a church, but I am starting to get it now. I whole-heartedly agree that it takes a community to raise a family and to nurture a marriage. When extended family are not nearby or are not supportive, where do we turn? I say we should turn to church, people with shared values and beliefs. Whereas he may not share some Christian beliefs, we may have some values in common with him.

Disillusionment with sexualized society and other values of the earth are very much reasons to convert to Christianity -- or, as Mr. Schmidt argues, Islam -- because when we put our attention onto God then behaviour that supports inappropriate values should diminish. What we think about most we will become.

Good luck with your search, Mr. Schmidt. Thank you for keeping us up-to-date on what you've learned.
