Rabid Anti-Theism has led to the outburst of mental and emotional illness in our country. To the point where psychotropic drugs are now taken regularly by over 30% of the US.

This is so true! We have turned our backs on God, legalized the murder of the innocents, and are trying to push God out of absolutely everywhere. Meanwhile, the family structure that the Lord God Himself put together is deteriorating and getting worse every year, and Americans, who have such high quality lives (running water, indoor sanitation system, majority with roofs over their heads and food on the table daily) are some of the most depressed people walking this earth! What does it mean for a man to gain the world if he loses his soul?? We have forgotten and actually despise the very God who has blessed us with homes, with children, with families, with jobs, with educations, with food on the tables, all our needs met. Why is that only when these things are gone from us, that is when we cry out, "Where is God?!" Why do we only remember God when we are in misery?? What will it take to bring us back to Him? I fear the answer to that question! I have seen part of what is coming upon this country for not only our unbelief but the way we despise God and profane His name and it is tragic, absolutely tragic. God LOVES us more than anything in this world, it is HE who has given us every single good thing that we have, why do we not turn back to Him and seek His face, seek His will? He does not hate us!!! No matter how much we hate Him, He does NOT HATE US! He LOVES us!

In NYC rabid anti-theism is not the problem. The problem is that it is so religiously diverse that you can't do anything for one religion without offending the others. How many Christians object to schools celebrating Halloween? Thanksgiving, however, should not have been cancelled. It is a national holiday, not a religious one. Everyone can thank the god of their choice, or the cook if they prefer.
What I really want to know is how the kids are performing academically at her school? As far as I'm concerned, that is all that matters.

Understand and agree the kids need to learn. I think the kids should learn about every religion as it applies to history and how they influenced societies. That type of gag on religion needs to go.

Then again some people are just a bit too sensitive.

There has never been a gag on studying religion as a topic in public schools. When i was in high school I took a class on the Bible as literature. In Middle School we had a World Cultures class that went through all the religions. As far as I know they still teach it.

Well yes I remember that as well.

It is now a gloss and barely two paragraphs. Pick up a MS or HS text book. You will be surprised.

I went to Catholic school so we got the full meal deal.

I don't know any. We just don't dress our kids up in violent characters and such.
When my middle daughter was 2 or 3 we dressed her like a pumpkin to go to her sister's class at school. She took one look in the mirror and began to scream and cry. After that it was only princesses and fairies. :)

You mean the family unit were parents beat their kids. Over stuff in the bible. Where teens snuck and got illegal abortion. And where people were mean to gay people.

My son was always a vampire. He had dark hair, dark eyes, light skin and and a cowlick in front. Perfect vampire.

I'm so sorry you see it this way. I hope you are not speaking of events you witnessed.

I moved around a bit in 25 years in the Army. The only place that had issues with Halloween was the small rural town in Oklahoma where we rented a home from a friend who moved from the area.

We had to trick or treat on the military post those years. The small town boasted 500 or so townsfolk and farmers. Of course there were 10 or more churches for the 500 or so people.

Nice quiet town which closed down every business early on Friday afternoon so everyone could be at the grid iron on time to watch the HS football team.

But alas, trick or treat was frowned upon.

I think too often we forget what is important.

What is the role of school? Imo, the role of school is to prepare children for the real world. Specifically, for the real world relative to where they live.

In the US, Thanksgiving and X'mas represent multibillion dollar events. They are a part of the fabric of this country. For many business owners, up to 60% of their entire annual sales happen between October and December.

So, Thanksgiving and X'mas are big deals. Forget about the religious implications, think about the commercial implications. So from that stand point, children and students should be taught about all the various aspects of every holiday. Cover all bases, discuss all religions, origins, celebratory practices, etc etc because that is an education that can translate into money in some point in their lives.

And since when did Santa Claus become a religious figure? Seriously??? He is a magical elf that travels the world via magical flying reindeer who climbs down your chimney and gives you presents if you were good for the year.

Not sure where he appears in the Bible or Quran lol...
The contemporary depiction of Santa Clause owes to German popular culture penetrating British and American life in the nineteenth century. The tradition can be traced to Saint Nicolas though and like all things culture it has changed over time.

Having worked in retail I can tell you that we hate the holiday period. It's horrible. Customers aren't exactly the nicest people at the best of time but throw in a highly commercialised holiday of gift giving into the mix and you get over-stressed minivan mums treating retail employees like trash. If anything is worth saving in the "spirit of Xmas" it's most certainly not the commercialisation of it. I don't celebrate Xmas anymore and don't give or expect gifts from anyone.

I agree. The holiday season commercialization destroyed a good family centered religious observance focused on family.

I remember getting things I actually needed for Christmas. Sure the toy or two that I asked "Santa" for usually showed up.

I think some people are overlooking the fact that this story is fake. It's not true.
Let us not allow the facts to impede the progress of a good story.

Whatb happens if they teach about various religions BUT require everyone to listen to all the lessons if there will be questions on each on say an exam.

Typically what happens is that very religious parents get upset that their kids are being taught facts about their religion and others rather than being indoctrinated by propaganda from the church and parents on the same topics.

so home school your kids or go private if you feel that the government schools are not educating your kids properly.
