No. That would simply encourage even more people to flood into the country.

How many refugees should the US take?
How many non-refugee immigrants (not temp work visas either) should the US accept?

I don't think I can understand where the limits of your position are if we don't know.

We can also see pressure on Mexican government as well.
To do what? Most of the current people coming across the border aren't even Mexican. It's like physics: Currently the US is a great sucking hole for illegal labor. Nothing's going to change until that hole is plugged.

Oh, so don't do anything to stop the exploitation of these people? And ignore our own government prospering from the same? It seems you think the solution is they all come here instead? No solution of their exploitation. How can we sustain that? It is not realistic.
Ther is plenty that can be done, trade and tourism. And close the border. Trump was able to get concessions. More could be done. Trump offered to help with it. That would be the last resort, but it could also be done.

My solution is far simpler than most and it appears to have been proven effective; keep illegal aliens from being able to find work. We saw with the recession in 2008 that illegal immigration went way down; there was no reason for people to come because they couldn't support themselves as there were no jobs. We see that anytime the job market falls in the US.

We don't need a wall that costs billions, causes all sorts of issues, etc. What we need is to put in serious penalties for businesses hiring illegal aliens, as well as requiring employers to use a well managed and up to date, E-Verify system to screen employees for their ability to work. Then you can also have ICE go to known "hangouts" of illegals who are looking for day work, such as checking the parking lots of Home Depot on a daily basis. If illegal aliens can't earn money in the US, they aren't going to come.

Yes, you will still have to stop people coming across the border -- but with far fewer people trying to cross it makes it much easier for the Border Patrol to intervene and catch those trying to cross the border illegally.

That does not matter. They are allowing them to pass through. Trade, and tourism can be threatened.

Right, and it can start with Mexico. Like under trump. That corrupt government is profiting off of these people passing through.

It doesn't have to cost billions to deal with the Mexican government either. We can do all of it.

The problem is politicians on both sides. We need to do it all. Since now it can depend on who is in office when it is just on our end. We see that happening now. Do all of it. We shouldn't be having this be an issue simply because of who is in the white house. E-verify was a joke.

It can most easily start by arresting CEOs who hire illegal immigrants. That doesn't take coercing another government. It doesn't even take passing any new laws. It just takes whatever current president in office to begin enforcing the current laws.

Any president since Reagan could have done that. But he'd likely run into the same problem Eisenhower ran into: American business makes billions of dollars a year on illegal labor.

Nobody is ever actually going to fix that.

Hey, Miguel. Did you read that there's going to be more immigration courts set up in the US?

Yeah, I did. Now I know I can get processed more quickly I've decided to sell everything, leave my home, family and friends, try to get to the border and risk getting in to the US. I tell you, it's a load off my mind that there won't be so much of a delay in processing me and the kids.

Maybe we should stop selling them guns and ammunition?

Capitalism is a great thing! Imagine all those here in America who profit off of military equipment used to kill other humans around the globe.

Would you have less of an issue if they did it for free?

And you are benefitting. From here: USDA ERS - Labor-Intensive U.S. Fruit and Vegetable Industry Competes in a Global Market

'Any potential immigration reform could have significant impacts on the U.S. fruit and vegetable industry. Over half of hired workers employed in U.S. crop agriculture are believed to be unauthorized immigrants...'

Do you want the government to clamp down on that so prices rise? In other words, what's more important to you: immigration or inflation.

You didn't seem to understand the post you replied to. It was about the "pull" of undocumented labor into the US labor market and stopping the demand.

Title 42? That “timed-out”.

President Joe Biden initially kept Title 42 in place after he took office, then tried to end its use in 2022. Republicans sued, arguing the restrictions were necessary for border security. Courts had kept the rules in place. But the Biden administration announced in January that it was ending national COVID-19 emergencies, and so the border restrictions have now gone away.

I suppose Biden could declare a national health emergency based on the c word...

And yet, talking out of the other side of their mouth, the government says that covid infections are still a great risk to this and other countries. Not to mention all the other diseases that are never screened for by those coming across the border. Like TB.

"Tuberculosis (TB) is an important cause of morbidity and mortality among refugees and migrant populations. These groups are among the most vulnerable populations at increased risk of developing TB. However, there is no systematic review that attempts to summarize TB among refugees and migrant populations. This study aimed to summarize evidence on the magnitude of TB among refugees and migrant populations. "

"The government is releasing thousands of illegal immigrant children with latent tuberculosis infections into American communities without assurances of treatment.

Nearly 2,500 children with latent infections were released into 44 states over the past year, according to a court-ordered report on how the Health and Human Services Department is treating the children.

About 126,000 total were released, indicating an infection rate of 1 in 50 migrant children."

Then there is the case of Congress passing a law to direct the building and funding of the border wall, which Biden unilaterally chose to stop, leaving piles of expensive materials go to waste.

They could expand guest worker programs. There are actually already legal channels for migrants from Mexico to find seasonal work in agriculture.

He's not talking about illegal immigrants poisoning the blood of our country. The "they" that Trump is referencing is the political party in power that is enabling and even expediting the massive amount of illegal immigration.
Trump is controlled op. It's best to not listen to him.

It doesn't matter. "Poisoning the blood of the country" is what Hitler said about political opponents of Nazism, using similar language.
