No, of course black is used by them to mean Negro.
Ham was cursed because of his treatment of his father.
One of the sons of Ham was Cush.
The Cushites were dark skinned.
Since the curse was that Ham would serve his brothers. People in their racism used it to justify slavery, their reasoning was that God had cursed Ham to be a slave, at least one of his sons and the "race" decended from him were Negro and so it was ordained by God that Negroes would be slaves. And of course they were excluded from things, like the Mormon church because of their "race".
It is certainly no curse from God to be excluded from being Mormon. That would show a blessing not a curse.
In addition, it is easy to see how dark skin is not a curse. If you are of fair skin, simply strip down and go to the tropics and walk around and work all day without suntan lotion. You will rapidly see how dark skin is a blessing to people living under such circumstances. It's not that they are protected from all the sun's effects, but they are certainly protected a lot compared to a fair skinned person. If you live along the equator, you would probably see redheads as being the people cursed with their skin color.
Anyway, the curse had nothing to do with skin color, that was read into the text by people gripped with racism.
