Two teenage girls were murdered by family members in Pakistan for just appearing in a video with a man. About 1000 women & girls a year are murdered in Pakistan by honour killings. The men in that country must be so insecure & backward in their thinking to treat women like this........Appalling!

Pakistani girls killed by family after appearing in video with man, police say

Two teenage girls have been murdered in north-west Pakistan in a so-called honour killing after a video of them circulated on the internet.

They are said to have been shot dead by family members earlier this week.

Police say the killing occurred after a short video of the girls with a young man emerged on social media.

Human Rights Watch said violence against women and girls remained a serious problem in Pakistan, where about 1,000 women died every year in so-called honour killings.

Two men, the father of one of the girls and the brother of the other, have been arrested in North Waziristan, according to Pakistan's Dawn newspaper.

An earlier First Information Report filed by the Razmak police station had said the girls, aged 16 and 18, were "killed in the name of honour by their paternal cousin".

The girls were killed on Thursday in the village of Shaam Plain Garyom, on the border of North and South Waziristan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, police said.

In a 52-second mobile phone video believed to have been recorded about a year ago and shared widely on social media a few weeks ago, three girls, including the victims, were seen with a man who was recording himself.

An official told Dawn it was believed the others in the video were still alive and "our topmost priority is to secure the life of the third girl and the man before taking any action".

So-called honour killings in Pakistan were highlighted in 2016 when social media star Qandeel Baloch was killed by her brother.

The same year, Pakistani filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy won an Academy Award for her documentary A Girl in The River: The Price of Forgiveness, telling the story of an 18-year-old girl pressured into forgiving villagers who attempted to kill her.

The killers often walk free under the country's legal system.

Does the government say anything about it?
There is no response from the Pakistani government mentioned in the article, but I would say that the government of Pakistan just sweeps this under the carpet for they support an Islamic male dominated society and don't want to cause any civil unrest by taking action or speaking out, that's why so many men walk free from court because the women have absolutely no rights in that society.
