Photography is the art, science, and practice of creating durable images by recording light or other electromagnetic radiation, either chemically by means of a light-sensitive material such as photographic film, or electronically by means of an image sensor. Typically, a lens is used to focus the light reflected or emitted from objects into a real image on the light-sensitive surface inside a camera during a timed exposure. The result in an electronic image sensor is an electrical charge at each pixel, which is electronically processed and stored in a digital image file for subsequent display or processing.

The result in a photographic emulsion is an invisible latent image, which is later chemically developed into a visible image, either negative or positive depending on the purpose of the photographic material and the method of processing. A negative image on film is traditionally used to photographically create a positive image on a paper base, known as a print, either by using an enlarger or by contact printing.

Photography has many uses for business, science, manufacturing (e.g. photolithography), art, recreational purposes, and mass communication.

I own a D3100 for almost a year now and I am kind of passionate about it :)
I'd love to share stories and stuff. I can hardly wait ;)

I'm crazy about photography! I'm the parish paprazzi! Unfortunately my poor old Pentax K20 and good lenses have been in the wards but it still gets some great shots. I'm dreaming of a K30!

Aha! A Pentax lover :)
Your photos are great, Julia!

I wonder about one thing, though.. I'm kind of shy about taking photos and a lot of people are bothered by it especially in the church. There are some monasteries where they don't even allow taking pictures inside the grounds. But I think I should be fine in our parish church. What is your method, Julia? You seem to take a lot of pictures inside churches.

the photos so far are awesome! I hope y'all post some more should you be inspired. I, personally, have a horrible eye. I know Mike G who used to post on here is a photographer, and some of his shots are pretty awesome.

Lighting was horrendous - Christmas trees with Blue lights - Clear plastic on the Iconostas and red light from the heaters - all guaranteed to produce good photos :(

This shot appealed to me

Originally it was just a head popped out , but by the time I'd grabbed the camera from in front of me this was what I actually got :)

Coo - that's a lot of gear

K-30 ,+ 18-55 DA WR lens , Tamron 18-250 , DA 35 F 2.4,Sigma 28-80 and a Metz 48 flash

They go in a Lowepro 150 Event Messenger bag - which has a dedicated pocket for my iPad. I have and use a BR Womens strap but recently got hold of their Wrist strap - which really suits me and my use.

I also have a Pentax Optio P70 which doesn't get a lot of use but is handy at times :)

It's been a little while since I've shot anything but I got my hands on a 5D Mk II a couple of years ago along with a Zeiss 50mm f/1.8 lens.

I'm more into cinematography than photography which is why I sprang for the 5D, I'm hoping to get a Red Epic and a set of Arri Master Primes or Cooke S4's in the not-so-distant future to really go to the next level. The great thing about the Epic DSMC is that it can do both cinematography and photography.

I've been wondering if I would be able to put this stuff to use for the Church down the road.

I mainly use the Tamron - it's a go everywhere , do most things lens BUT it's not weather resistant :(

The 18-55 WR is a kit one - was used for Theophany for obvious reasons :D Normally the 18-55 just lives at home. The 35 is always in my bag - it's small and I do use it a fair amount - someone described it, and the 40Ltd I had befo, as 'what the eye sees' . I found that though I loved the 40Ltd it was too small for my dodgy hands - and once the 35 came out I sold the 40 and bought the 35 and popped the extra dosh in the bank :)

As my hand control / sensation is not the best I have to be very careful changing lenses - hence the Tamron - I can usually get what I want with it - particularly in Church.

I will not use flash during Church services , though, even though it involves me in a lot of PP .
