So would they be considered humans? The National History Museum article says that they were, but a distinct species. To be human, wouldn’t they have to be the same species?Humans and “Neanderthals” are practically identical at the dna code level.
Neanderthals and humans interbred and produced offspring that
interbred—and regularly. Promiscuous early humans interbred

There were at least three different human forms on Earth,
all having sex with each other.
Genesis 6:4 talks about “giants” in the land before the flood.

From H5307; properly, a feller, that is, a bully
or tyrant: - giant. Total KJV occurrences: 3
English word Giants is translated from two original Hebrew words:
Rephaim and Nephilim. Nephilim, which means “a feller,”
or one who fells a tree because of his unusual strength.
The term implies a “tough,” or a bully, an individual of
great physical might. The pre-Flood Nephilim were giants
in strength but not in tallness of stature.
The description of the Nephilim of pre-Flood matches with
the large-boned, exceptionally muscled Neanderthals.

The Rephaim are mentioned only after the Flood; they
were tall men, like Anakim (Deuteronomy 2:11, 20).

The Bible talks about a great leader named Tubalcain. He was
the first to work with metal and develop instruments of war
(Genesis 4:22). And in those days violence filled the Earth
(Genesis 6:11, 13).
The Neanderthals were no match for the swords, spears and
arrows of Tubalcain’s armies. Eventually the violence and
degradation became so intense that God decided to destroy
all humans except Noah and company, in a worldwide Flood.
So would they’re considered humans?
Ok, thanks. And you’re saying that the Neanderthals were most likely the Nephilim which was spoken about in the Bible?Being practically identical at the dna code level I would say yes,
and they came from Adam and Eve like everyone else.
Welcome, Yes that is what I believe.Ok, thanks. And you’re saying that the Neanderthals were
most likely the Nephilim which was spoken about in the Bible?
Ok, thanks again!Welcome, Yes that is what I believe.
Do you intend to mean post or pre Seth, Cain and Abel?and they came from Adam and Eve like everyone else.
To be human, wouldn’t they have to be the same species?
The data suggests Neanderthals are as closely related to humans
as Chinese are to Germans, or French to Javanese.
They are more distantly related to us than that. They are close to a separate species, but probably would qualify as a subspecies of H. sapiens, a race different than our own. Today, there is only one biological human race, but at one time there were at least four, according to human genomes.
Human or non human?
AiG, Creation.com, and ICR say that they were human too, but I don’t know if I can trust those sites.I have heard that they are 100% human and that there are living examples still to this day -- but the depictions of them are doctored a bit to get them to be less-than-human in appearance.
So were they humans?
Probably superior in many ways to modern humans.
Stronger for sure. Not as good as we are at throwing things, due to shoulder anatomy. They seem to have rarely, if ever, used projectile weapons. There's no reason to think they were dumber than we are, but for some reason, they were very culturally conservative; their toolkit changed very little over time. Interestingly, they seem to have been perfectly able to borrow the toolmaking technology of anatomically modern humans where they encountered them. There is evidence that anatomically modern humans copied some tools from them as well.
They had larger brains than we do, but due to greater muscle mass, their brains were about "the right size" for body size. Their brains were shaped a bit different than ours, and there's a good deal of interest in what that might have meant for mental abilities and behavior.
Think a study found they suffered injuries indicating they were getting very close to large dangerous animals, likely while hunting.
