Which at the time of the Revelation writing, that city was Rome.

False religion started at the Babel Towel, so the mystery Babylon is all the false religion, which one day will be destroyed.

Satan is behind all the false religion, there he mostly operates. He doesn't need to operate much in our society, as we are sinful enough. Satan uses false religion against God, but he wants to be worshipped alone, so he hates false religion also. God will use satan to bring judgement upon all the false religion of the world, he will destroy it all.

I voted "other". Mystery Babylon the great is the mystical kingdom of Satan and his angels. Their kingdom will be destroyed in the second half of the seven years, when Satan and his angels will be cast down to earth as the first step in Revelation 12:7-9.

I think Jerusalem was the mystery Babylon. It was destroyed at the 3.5 year mark of a seven year war. You could even call it a seven year tribulation if you wanted to. The sea turned to blood, people were forced to worship the image of the beast, and at the mid-tribulation point the old covenant ended.

I can think of many reasons to see the Woman as Rome. You have just stated one of the biggest reasons. The only city John's readers would see as the "great city" ruling that part of the world would be Rome. However, Jesus had John couch his words and their meanings in mysterious language so that hostile Romans, reading this, wouldn't have a clue what he was talking about. However, Christians, versed in the book of Daniel and on the dreams of Nebuchadnezzar and Daniel in Dan 2 and 7 would surely know that the 4th Kingdom was Rome, and that the "eternal city" is Rome, which will not be so "eternal" when Antichrist burns it.

Do you think it is possible that Babylon was Rome when John received the Revelation and will be another city when the city is destroyed?

I can't be dogmatic about *anything* in the book of Revelation, except Jesus is coming back! ;) I'm just giving my honest thoughts--I'm not certain about anything in a book that is literally filled with symbolism.

Peter called Rome Babylon, not because it was, but for what it represented, a world built upon the self serving image of man. Even the beginning of institutionalized corporate Christianity rejoined that world and rejected the Kingdom in the time of Constantine. It could very well be a system, not a place.

The Future Babylon Project.

Following the 2003 invasion of Iraq, the area around Babylon came under the control of US forces. Much damage was done by military vehicles; however, the US are now working with Iraq leaders to restore Babylon.

This project is called the Future Babylon project. (2009)

Those involved will involve the local community and work to create a sustainable situation. Jeff Allen of the US side said, “The idea is to develop something that is going to be here 30 – 40 years from now and has benefits for the local people. We don`t want something that will only benefit outsiders.”

“If you have 200, 000 people a year coming to this site, you will have people staying at hotels, visiting restaurants, buying souvenirs,” Allen said. “The site is in some ways a revenue generator for the local community.”

The State Board of Antiquities and Heritage (SBAH) is the main authority responsible for the conservation of the archeological site. They are assisted by Antiquity and Heritage Police and maintain a permanent presence there.

The World Monuments Fund is also involved in research and conservation. The SBAH Provincial Inspectorate headquarters is located within the boundaries of the ancient inner-city walls on the east side and several staff members and their families reside in subsidized housing in this area.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization is spending millions of dollars into protecting and restoring – Babylon and some other ancient ruins. UNESCO has printed up a well-produced brochure, with Babylon listed as the premier destination, to hand out to wealthy donors.

The Babylon project is Iraq`s biggest and most ambitious by far, reflection of the ancient city`s fame and its resonance in Iraq`s modern political and cultural heritage.

Cultural Tourism.

Cultural Tourism will become Iraq`s second biggest industry after oil. The government of Iraq is moving forward with plans to protect the archaeological remains of the ancient City of Babylon, in preparation for building a modern city of Babylon.

The project is aimed at attracting scores of `cultural tourists` from all over the world to see the glories of Mesopotamia`s most famous city.

The Babylon International Festival has a goal to relaunch art, culture and even the economy of Iraq by making Babylon a showcase of a new Iraq, a must-see tourist attraction for visitors from all over the world.

By July 2019, so much progress had been made that Babylon was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The government is going to convert the Palace Saddam built into a museum.

So Americanizing the area is a benefit? And only 30-40 years when the previous culture was thousands? A different book using the old cover.

That`s what they are saying, not me. Man makes his plans but it is God who has the outcome.

Agreed yet from the Garden on man refuses to listen to Him. Self is our god..
Agree, but God is moving to fulfill His purposes for the Body of Christ, for Israel and for the nations. Each in God`s timing.

Yes but that is His agenda and we will be left out if we don't comply and reject our will over His.
