From the University of Notre Dame website: The following statement from Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C., president of the University of Notre Dame, is in response to the decision by Mary Ann Glendon to decline acceptance of the University’s Laetare Medal:

“We are, of course, disappointed that Professor Glendon has made this decision. It is our... READ MORE

President Barack Obama reacted this way to Mary Ann Glendon’s decision to refuse to be honored alongside the pro-abortion president at Notre Dame’s May 17 commencement, MSNBC reports:

“President Obama is disappointed by former Ambassador Mary Glendon’s decision,” said spokeswoman Jennifer Psaki, “but he looks forward to delivering an... READ MORE

Then I learned that "talking points" issued by Notre Dame in response to widespread criticism of its decision included two statements implying that my acceptance speech would somehow balance the event....

Futher the dialectic in other words...exactly why Axelrod is so eager to continue this tour of Catholic institutions upon which this adminstration has embarked.

May I suggest she be replaced with someone more befitting Notre Dame's current culture.. a Nancy Pelosi perhaps or maybe some of the other Catholics that have turned the Democrats into the prolife party that they now are?

Mary Ann Glendon, evidently, is too much of an extremist to be very effective as the token alternative voice for Magestrial values.

Good for her. I hope the next person they offer the award to follows suit.

that will not happen, they will offer the award to someone who will not turn it down, either a mediocre talent who needs some fame or someone of compromised morals

I wonder if Glenodon was inspired by Carrie Prejean- I also wonder if Obama will not just cut loose and call glendon a stupid <----->.

Good job Mary Ann Glendon, this is exactly the response Notre Dame deserves and needs.

    I am available. ;)

One thing worth looking at here is who Miss Glendon was appointed by and which administration she represented as an Ambassador.

For those not sure of the answer to that question, here is a hint:

It is possible that this is being done purely out of religious conviction, but it is also possible that there is an element of partisanship in play here. I wouldn't overlook the latter as being an element of this. If this story were reported more as "Bush appointee upset that Obama is being honored", I doubt it would be viewed as being that noteworthy or significant.

well i would hope it is not partisan play, i also, do not think that would be a factor, i mean, these kinda things happen, people come in and out of office, parties wax and wane, you get used to it, you do not turn down an award from ND just because somebody else getting an award is from a differant party (unless that party is the Nazi party ofcourse lol) so since Obama is not a member of the 3rd Reich, i think this is something more then just political

Kinda makes sense don't it? I mean considering who holds which positions on life you would sorta like, you know, expect this, right? I mean like Obama isn't gonna, from what we've seen, appoint a person who like, you know, holds the position on life Miss Glendon does to any position of influence, is he?

The financial penalty resulting from the decision to honor the most pro-abortion president in our nation's history will be enormous.

The President has yet to appoint his ambassador to the Vatican yet. I consider it likely that the person he appoints will be pro-life on the abortion question, though obviously we'll have to wait and see.

In the meantime, though, we do know that President Obama has taken a lot of steps to show that he values human life and human dignity on issues other than abortion, steps that former President Bush did not take.

one of the first things Mr.Obama did was to do away with the Mexico City Policy, he is an enemy of the unborn

Here is the post you just replied to. I put the part I think you may have missed in bold:

"In the meantime, though, we do know that President Obama has taken a lot of steps to show that he values human life and human dignity on issues other than abortion, steps that former President Bush did not take."
