Is Love Also the Truth?
What is more important?
Is it Love or is it the Truth?
Well, we know that the Scriptures teach us that the top two commandments are to...
(1) Love God.
(2) Love all other people (Matthew 22:36-40).
For He that does not love his brother or others does not know God (1 John 3:14) (1 John 4:8).
We also know that in having the assured knowledge (or the truth) that you are in a real right relationship with the Son of God = Eternal Life.
For He that has the Son has life, and He that does not have the Son, does not have life (1 John 5:12).
For Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6).
Jesus Christ is Omniscient and is the Lord of all knowledge and or truth (John 21:17).
For Jesus Christ is God Almighty who is Eternal, and created all things (Micah 5:2) (Colossians 1:14-17).
In fact, there is no greater love than that of a man (i.e. Jesus Christ) who laid down his life for that of his friends (Which is you and me) (John 15:13).
For God (i.e. Jesus Christ) is the very embodiment of love (1 John 4:8).
So what's more important again? Having a deep love for God and a healthy love for others? Or is it Truth (or in having the knowledge) that you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and knowing that you are following Him?
For is not the Truth of knowing that you are secure in Christ (by His ability to forgive you) just as precious to you as loving God and loving others?
Do we see people loving God and loving other people and yet they do not have the truth or knowledge of being in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ?
Can a Christian be just as loving to God and others as a non-believer who has not accepted Christ? What makes the Christian and a loving non-believer different?
Can a Christian have not love by possessing hate and unforgiveness in their heart and still know God? Do you think they can be hateful and unforgiving until they die and still be saved?
What I have come to the conclusion is that there is worldly love and worldly truth. Worldly love is a love that focuses primarily on one's own life, goals, and ambitions. Worldly love can include being kind, and generous to others. However, the motivation is usually self centered of one's ego and not God centered. Worldly truth steals the morals from the Bible in order to maintain order within a society and attempts to make their own truth that serves the needs of mankind or the individual.
And then there is Godly love (Which works in a true believer's life) that puts loving God and loving others first and then there is Spiritual Truth, which is having a right relationship with Jesus Christ.
In the secular worldview, love and truth are determined by the individual or by the world's standard. In the Biblical worldview, love and truth are determined by God (Of which we can learn more about if we study His Word).
In this example, love is more important than truth (i.a. all knowledge).
1 Corinthians 13:2 - "If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but don't have love, I am nothing."
Yet we are given a commandment to accept the Truth, by believing in Jesus Christ.
1 John 3:23 - "And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment."
Why does God reprove the world of sin?
John 16:8-9 - "For And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me;"
Because they have not believed on the Truth, which is Jesus.
Having the knowledge of knowing how to love God and others is a Truth. In other words, taking this all into account and looking at 1 Corinthians 13:2, having love is more important than what a person believes to be is all knowledge of the the Truth or the Scriptures. For if they were to have all knowledge they would then know about the Truth or the knowledge about loving God and loving others.
Love is God and it is about allowing Him to work His will and love in your life.
Truth is God and it is about allowing Him to work His will and truth in your life.
For the perfection or end of Love and Truth is Jesus Christ.
Love and Truth both come from Jesus Christ.
Biblical love and truth at the core is Jesus and knowing in what He has done for us. For if we were to accept the Truth of how much God truly loves us, I believe greater things would happen in our lives as Christians.
So there is a fine line between Love and Truth. They almost seemed to be tied together as one. For you can't have love without the truth or knowledge about love. And you cannot have Truth or all knowledge if you do not love.
