William Penn is believed to have purchased the land on which his house was built from the Lenni-Lenape tribe. Penn is also know for treating the native american population with respect. So yes, it's an interesting history and would not be complete without including the Native American role in William Penn's Pennsylvania.

When Penn arrived in his colony in late October 1682, he reinforced the Lenape's favorable view of him. He took great pains to deal fairly, generously and honestly with the native inhabitants of the land that he claimed as his own. He personally met with them to purchase land, a practice memorialized in his legendary meeting with the Lenape along the banks of the Delaware River at

Penn Treaty Park. The proprietor also made a genuine effort to understand the Lenape by learning their language. At their invitation, he traveled to their villages and enjoyed their hospitality. In 1701, he traveled out to the Susquehanna River to meet with the Lenape and Susquehannocks who lived at the

Conestoga Indian Town.

His home is not there nor has it been for decades if not centuries.

Most of the top comments I saw on reddit were along the lines of, "good, that park is a dump" and "That's a park? I thought it was a big alley."

Not sure I'd call it a dump, per se, but it's hardly a beautiful place. The pavement is pretty chewed up, and the surroundings aren't exactly attractive.

The building in front of it is a B&B - the Thomas Bond House - originally built in the late 1700s (i.e. long after William Penn died). It is not, nor was it ever, William Penn's house. Everything else is fairly recent construction - condos, a parking garage, and government buildings.
